The bottom line is...the big Footlocker fans consist solely of older people who want the meet of their generation to remain as the best. The high schoolers themselves like NXN more and their are countless interviews to prove it. The FL meet draws less meet spectators BY FAR, despite the poor weather conditions and less desirable location. It's over.Sorry.
Thank you. I also think you have to add that people hate Nike because they are so successful. They bring in a new national meet and totally dominate FL right away. I have kids on my team who don't even know FL exists.

Let Nike provide a real XC course for the national championship and I'm behind them 100%. Shouldn't be that difficult.
There are no real courses left for big meets. Everything has to be "spectator friendly" so it doesn't matter if it's cross country or the Olympic Marathon Trials.

There are many real courses used for state championships. I consider those to be big meets with reasonably high stakes, high quality runners and large fields. I fail to see why a national championship cannot be run on such a course.

LOL! You obviously have not run the course, it runs just like a European meet; with mud and obstacles and a generally nasty winter element. The best athletes are there now, it's a proven success, the kids love it, that's why they come back year after year and forego footlocker. Didn't know cross country as a sport had a bad name, unless of course I'm talking to a lacrosse/soccer/football/basketball/volleyball/baseball fan.
I have raced the course and coached athletes who have raced if as well. It's a joke of a course.
Both meets are great, neither is dying any time soon.
Fact is State meets, especially CA & NY is more important and competitive.
As I've said on another thread, the NXN course is actually better, from a xc perspective, than Footlocker. The Kinney (Footlocker) course was an afterthought to the rest of the trip - which is the point. Portland is no match for Del Coronado and the Footlocker meet will continue to draw top talent so long as 7/8 of the country is freezing in December. NXN is a better purists cross country meet but Footlocker is just more fun and after 3 months of racing, as an athlete, coach or spectator, a lot of us prefer to enjoy ourselves in December.

Interesting that all it takes for someone to be called a moron these days is that they said the course isn't such a joke.
For whatever it's worth... the kids I've coached for the most part liked the course, and that was when they went to the warm and dry version in September. I'm sure they would have had a blast if they tried the mud in December!

Don't worry. None of Watchout's kids will ever get past the spectator's ropes at either national meet. Pre Nats and maybe the back end of the regional meet is the best they can hope for.
