why on earth would she just skip the 5k altogether? I mean, training for the 10k could certainly help her 5k, since she has seemed to lack the endurance to put a good 5k together, so I think it could be a good move for her. Though she'll still have Saina to battle in the 10k at NCAAs outdoors. Assuming this means she'll focus on 3k/5k more than mile/3k indoors, which could set her up better for outdoors too..
Normally when athletes decide to move up it's a sign that their careers are struggling a bit and they're unsure they can cut it at their usual distance.
But this usually doesn't happen until athletes hit their peak age (e.g., Teg). The fact that Jordan is having doubts before she's even graduated college seems to say a lot about where she's at mentally and what she thinks of her natural talent.
I know she had a bad outdoor season last year, but come on. She was top American at NCAA XC last year, and this year she came within a second of a 24-year old 31:15 Kenyan and a girl who barely missed a spot on the U.S. Olympic 5K team.
Jordan, if you're reading this, don't move to the 10K. You still have so much more to improve on.

Last interview I saw of Jordan, she indicated that she is now going to progress to the 5K/10K. I do not know why this article focused only on the 10K because I believe that Jordan intends to race primarily in the 5K during her senior track season,eventually moving up to the 10K.

Re-read what Hasay is quoted as saying: "I'm moving up to the 10K...I feel I can do another 4K at that pace." NOW do you understand the focus on the 10K?
umm ever heard of Gary Bjorkland or Craig Virgin? They moved up to 10K fairly young and made an Olympic team while still in college. Went on to do some respectable things. I have long felt that Hasay will do better at the 10K and up than at 5K and 1500.
I see her having a better shot making worlds in the 10k than the 5k. I think she could run very well in both the 5k and the 10k during track.

FINNALY!!! We have been waiting for this quite some time.
^^ The post above about her doubting her natural talent is BS. Some people have the footspeed for the 1500 and others have the aerobic engine for the 10k. Jordan is just not a 1500 runner. It is obvious why she has been more successful in XC than track in college.
She'd never know what she could have done in the 10 without this change. It might not work, but she'll be even stronger because of the training. She may still run the 5,000 at Eugene in June of course.
I think the most fun will be seeing just how fast she'll run in 2013 in 10k @ MtSAC/Stanford and later in Europe.
