Flagpole, is this something I should be investing my money in?

I don't currently pay any money for my bank account. No ATM fees. I think they charge overdraft fees but I'm not sure because I don't pay them (I don't overdraft my account).

I like being able to walk into the bank and talk to somebody there. I would not do my primary banking with somebody who does not have an office in my town.

Can we close the account once we get the $50?

Free checking doesn't always mean free. No fees yes but what do your checks cost?

ING got bought out by Capital One last year. They're changing the name to "Capital One 360" in February.

I'm plenty happy with them, though, and literally can't remember the last time I needed to go to a physical bank anyway.

I actually just switched to ING a few weeks ago when TD Bank caught on that I was no longer a student and started charging me fees for my checking. I've had a savings account with ING for six or seven years, so I figured I'd do my checking with them as well. No complaints.

I just looked this up. From their FAQ: "You can order a checkbook of 50 checks for $5.00."

Their is no fee per check and most things you can pay electronically.

I also got $107 last year. Still have a dollar or two in the account, but other than using the money that was in there, haven't done anything with the account.

I plan on telling my son about this deal this year.
