Is Lalang's low mileage finally starting to catch up to him?

Yes, it is. you could see it starting to happen last spring, and it has carried over to this X-Country. James Li from Arizona is a very overrated coach. What he is good at is recruiting good runners. But that is a very different thing.

I'm obviously no expert, but it seems to me that trying to be a successful 5k-10k runner on that mileage would be short lived. It's like Lalang and Sambu are being trained on 1500 training. I'd be interested to see what would happen if they were doing higher mileage.

Can we not assume Lalang has boosted is mileage a bit this year, as per almost every other collegiate athlete? You don't hear many NCAA athletes talking about keeping their mileage the same or decreasing after their freshmen year, why would Lalang be any exception?

that's a good point, I doubt he's gone over 70 though. Obviously he had a bad race today, but you can't help but think he's not doing as much mileage as the majority of the people in the race today. I just personally think, in my unprofessional opinion, that he would've performed better today and at the end of the outdoor track season with more miles. I just wanted to see if anybody agreed or disagreed and why.

You may have it exactly backwards. When Lalang started he was only running 50mpw or so (Lagat mileage), apparently ran a sub-4 off no structured training at all, and looked unbeatable.

But Dr. Li has said that Lalang's mileage has gotten up to 80 this season, and the results have not been that great. Looks to me like they need to go back to what worked and get rid of that hobby jogger shit.
