I'm looking for some advise concerning helping the middle distance runners for a middle school team. The two coaches are very young and really don't have any real track backround, they are both young teachers. I guess my main question is the team practices 2 days a week and will have 5 or 6 meets during the season. Some of the 1/2 milers and milers may have some base build up, but most won't do much running in the winter/indoor season. If I had to recommend workouts to do during the week, what would give these runners the best bang for the buck? Would you recommend some sort of distance run one day finished off with strides or short hill burst, and maybe some type of interval work for the second day? Thanks for any insight.
