Webb actually had some good results with Salazar. Won some low-key races in Europe. Got down to 3:36 I think. Finished 4th or so at Fifth Avenue Mile. Ran 13:30 to beat Rupp in a road 5k.
His teams would not be top 20 in the NCAA. His talent level is certainly equal to many of the teams in the top 20. H might have one one or two teams ever that would ave qualified for the dance. Remember also, cis runners take money and have a longer time frame with which to use their eligibility. His post collegiate group is similar to the American groups. Numerous 4 min milers and more importantly a group that have the desire to move to Guelph and dedicate themselves in Canada's non distance running culture.
If DST were in the NCAA system with all their resources. He would surely be a very well respected coach.

I was there the last year pre-DST and the first with him as coach. The difference he made for the program was striking, right off the bat.

Tremaine was running varsity for Windsor in 1995 (and 95-96 season).

Actually I'm pretty sure it was Rick Schroeder that laid the foundation in Guelph taking a women's cross-country team from nowhere to second at CIS then the year after he left and DST took over, Guelph ladies won CIS (Schroeder's team won CIS)with DST as new figure head. The same Rick Schroeder who just took 5 Petawawa high school boys from nowhere to a gold medal in Senior Boys OFSAA cross-country at Heart Lake in 2012 from a General Panet school that has 400 students erasing the competition from schools with 1000s of students. Hoohah!
Actually, I know it was Rick Schroeder because he's now sitting beside me sipping a Sleeman's beer and recounting the whole tale. I teavh with him at General Panet HS in Petawawa And it was my son and his team he coached to the gold medal, the first senior boys OFSAA cross-country gold by a single "A" since Manitoulin in 1976. OHHHHHHHH Baby.
Rich Tremain and I co-coached together for 8 months 95-96. did a great job for two months of the cross country season. I coached there from 1990 to 1996 as head coach while Dave went to queens and the U of Vic. recruited like crazy which is how university programs get good(not great though). We went from an unranked team to finishing second to Waterloo by at couple of points on Mount Royal in Montreal. Sarah Dillabough killed us. Ottawa valley girl. why did I leave? personal reasons. Not even DST could have built a national championship team in 4 months, but he did a great job bring them home and for that I am happy. DST and I were roommates at UofG under coach Allan Keele, best friends, still am. The reason he is so successful is because he is the smartest guy in the room. He would be great at anything he does. lucky for us he picked coaching. I see three dimensional conversations going on, while Dave thinks in four or five. He is the Bill Bowerman of Canada. Controversial and brilliant.
