Father/Daughter 5 mile race off Neely Spence runs 25:22 followed by her dad in 25:45

Hope he races in a few Masters meets and takes down some national and world records soon

When is the last time we actually had an American win a road race? Congrats Neely!

The course is net downhill, there are no hills and only a slight incline around mile 3-4.

Interestingly, if you plug in their performances into McMillan, it gets even harder to pick a better mark.

Neely's time equates to a 15:24 5k, 40 seconds off the AR on the track.

Steve's time converts to a 15:38, 27 seconds off of Pete Magill's AR from last year. (Magill ran 14:45 at age 49, which McMillan equates to a crazy 24:18 8k.)

So Steve's performance stacks up better to the ARs, but you can safely say that the women's all-around AR is under more constant attack than the men's 50+ AR, and is thus a stronger mark.

I'm much more excited about Neely after seeing her today. Looks like a 2:25 marathoner by Rio.

She has a cherubic face, despite running so much! Her face isnt drained of fat like so many other female distance runners.

She hasn't changed much in the past 5 years.

Coach has done a great job bringing her along. She is now ready to make a serious mark in the American Running scene.

she bears a slight resemblance to Paula Radcliffe, a better looking paula.

If there was ever a case to just say " Wow, those are both great performances." I think this would be it.

Age graded Neeley wins 95.40 to 94.72.

There is the father/son sub-4:00 mile standard. Has anyone come up with something comparable for father/daughter or mother/daughter pairs?

if she runs 6 minutes for the last 1.2 for the 10k distance that's around 31:22....that's pretty fast.

She is am fast. To give you a reference point, She's somewhere between a snake and a mongoose. And a panther.

someone needs to check out female half marathon winner hirut beyen of ethiopia, who resides in Washington, Dc and claims she's 20 years old with 2 kids and has ran about 3-5 marathons in the past 2-3months with good times and many other races..."lots of extra energy it seems"....seems to run races that don't test...needs the surprise of her life
