So Meb Keflezighi (via Twitter) has challenged Usain Bolt to a race for charity...this would be great to have here in NYC...I wonder if Bolt accepts the challenge?

I think for Meb to have a shot at winning it would have to be 1,000 meters +

Sprinters don't like running long. To make it an even race, the distance would have to be long enough that Bolt would hurt and look bad running it even if he won. Meanwhile Meb would just look slow. I can't see Bolt agreeing to look bad. And he apparently doesn't like running even the 400. You would have to get up to something like the 800 or 1500 to make it roughly even.
Besides, if it's Bolt vs. a marathoner, it would need to be something like Bolt vs. Makau (WR holder vs. WR holder) or Bolt vs. Geb (biggest sprint star vs. biggest marathon star). I love Meb, but he's not in the same league as Bolt as a celebrity.

Im afraid Meb is a media whore who wants to scrape every cent he can before he retires. Leave this sort of race to David Rudisha or Mo Farah men who actuallt have Olympic gold medals.

I agree. Conservatively let's put Bolt at 1:21-1:24 in the 600. I'd put Meb a few seconds back.
Then at 800, Meb in like 1:58? 1:57? He's so not trained for it- and Bolt in 2:00-2:05. At 15:00 Meb would crush it, 3:50-3:55 versus 4:10-4:15. Maybe Bolt is even slower than that, I don't think we'll ever find out.
Obviously these numbers came out of thin air and have no possible justification besides my intuition.
Meb is more famous then Makau easy. Do a survey at your next road race. Ask people if they know who Patrick Makau is the. Ask if they know who Meb kefelezighi is. As far as US population goes Bolt and Meb are the two most recognizable runners.
