How many years till the 5k record is broken? Who will break it? When will we see sub 12?

To which 5k world record are you referring to?
Someone we've never head of will break it, likely an early teenager now. It will be in around 10 years.

Depends on whether or not performance enhancing drugs will be fully legalized.
Looks like it already happened this weekend.
The Firegly Run is not normally a world class even but it appears Donavan Stelly just broke the 5K world record with a 12:14. He most definitely deserves a LetsRun black page. Damn - he is only 16 - I bet the colleges will be recruiting him heavily.

we will see sub 12 when someone comes along who has the raw speed of rudisha and the aerobic capacity of bekele. in short, never.
Gebremeskel is fairly young and probably has some time to drop still, I could see him breaking the WR in the next few years if he could get a race set up for it. As for sub-12, it may never happen, or at least not for decades.

You probably need TWO runners like him to make it happen. When Tergat, Komen, Geb (and later Kenny) ran their WR, they had vital competition.
Farah seems the only one who is able to beat Gebremeskel right now and I expect him to peak over the next two years (considering his age) without being able to dip under 12:40.
Sub 12 is impossible.
sub-12:50 is impossible (legally).

Moorcroft ran 13:00.41 without a pacer and on slower tracks than nowadays. He was also not born or trained extensively at altitude
He could have been blood doping, but it can't be that effective otherwise nobody would bother with EPO and somebody born at and trained at altitude would atleast on the same level
Too many tos toots. As far as when it will be broken - by the end of 2016.
