What's a good yearly progression of mileage for a healthy 25 year old male who's been running for a year and a half and has recently started doing ~50 mpw for the last month or so?
Is it feasible to shoot for 60 after two years total, and 70 after 2.5 and 80 after 3, etc? Basically 20 mile increase a year?
Or is it "better" to go higher, say 30 mpw more each year, or lower, say 10-15 mpw more each year?
Long-term (5-8 years) growth and improvement is the goal, reaching peak performance levels in the early to mid 30s.
Hypothetically speaking, is it better to go for overall volume with year round strength and speed (a bit periodized) but at a reduced level (i.e. giving up a little quality for more quantity), or is it better to make smaller overall increases while maintaining more strength and speed work, maybe 2-3 a week instead of 1-2 (i.e. more quality over quantity)?
A lot of questions, but any ideas on any of the above?
Cheers.
