LetsRunners - Help Save The Pro NY Race - Where else can it be run and when?

Impromptu Marathon around central park. 4 laps.

I honestly think they should do it this weekend. It's the last race of Majors for women and I really don't want to see the timing messed up.

Philly of course.

The problem with comparing this to a pro sporting event like the Giants game is that these events are confined to one venue. Unfortunately, the venue for the marathon is the whole city. The players are running through the streets and the spectators are using other streets to go from place to place to watch the race. People aren't just parking in one place and sitting for several hours. I can't see how even a smaller version of the race can be done that won't cause the same uproar as the original version.

There are plenty of marathon's and half-marathons that can be doubled in the northeast this weekend and next just look here. I don't know which areas have been effected by the storm the most, and most likely most marathon's this weekend have been cancelled.

That's a fair point, but that's why it could be moved to Central Park. It wouldn't be in the sections of the city that were hard hit by the storm and by next weekend, things should be much better anyway. I think that's definitely the best option. Canceling it altogether is a horrible decision.

Harrisburg PA marathon is next weekend on the 11th. Tiny but well run marathon. Registration is even still open!

Also it is the capital city of a bordering state so there is that tie in too...

THIS. Lap course a la 2008 Trials. This weekend as to not upset people's tapers.

Your loops in Central Park is the most viable. Next two weeks. A pro race only.

bring out the millrose track at msg. indoor marathons just like the early 1900s

the park loops would be a way for the marathon to save some face, "unite" the city, and still get the pros a payday. talk to the pros, pick a day in a few weeks and run that sucker. i say do it at night too. that would be more fun.

The real answer is that people just don't respect marathoning as a pro sport. Read the commentary, and people talk about a "silly marathon" or imply that the runners are all wimps. Nobody's saying anything like that about the NFL game, even though it's equally trivial. I'm sure the announcers will go on about the indomitable Spirit of New York, too.

the Ichan track is not ready to take runners so a traditionl track might be a better choice- Wein perhaps

Because it's their job to run it? Non-elite runners' livelihoods don't depend on this.

There are plenty of races in November/December for elites to run in USA, Japan an Europe. Cal International, Yokohama (women) and Fukuoka (men), immediately come to mind.

The NYC marathon is not a football or basketball game. The marathon uses up so much land area in terms of the city and roadways.
