Patrick Makau releases statement in answer to doping allegations

You read that incorrectly. It is in no way an admission of guilt -- why the hell would he admit guilt anyway?

I'm saying that by leaving out a denial of EPO use, he's essentially admitting he does it. Wouldn't you, if accused of doping, say something to the extent of, "Let me be clear, I do not, and have never, used EPO or any banned substances to enhance my performance"?

That logic means Patrick is guilty, while Lance isn't...

He did say that he'd be racing with a clean conscience though. All in all, I think that the statement is pretty much meaningless one way or the other. It was mostly-likely written up by his agent and Makau signed his name to it with the intention of salvaging his image.

I fail to see a possible scenario where someone who is willing to use drugs to cheat and win is unwilling to directly lie about it. With as often as people take the things that athletes say out of context (or in context, but with the intent of over analyzing/nit picking/trolling), it does not surprise me that someone on his level would want his agent to handle matters of his reputation.

He could have said "I do not, and never have, used any PEDs" and half of this message board would say "No one said he used PEDs, and he comes out and says he didn't after not being accused? Guilty conscience and he's trying to cover it up!"

I have personally been to Kenya, eaten a big bowl of cherries there and thereafter ran much faster. I have no knowledge if Patrick Makau ate any cherries, but maybe he did.

However I wish to emphasize that, although cherries are not easy to detect, they are not illegal! I am delighted with this as cherries result in more than 3 times the oxygen carrying capacity of EPO or any other nefarious medications.

Thus I also have a clear conscience and continue to enjoy partaking of the cherries.

He as done much more than deny it. he has stated clearly that he has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the store in Nairobi or any pharmacy in Kapsabet. HE said he sends a friend to buy him isotonic drink mixes that he verifies are legal through the IAAF.

I think thats clear enough.

Now its up to the journalist or the store owner to state that Makau was definitely at the store buying illegal supplements, with if possible receipts.

Are you aware of the contents of the German broadcast? Makau probably didn't deny doping explicitly because he wasn't accused of it. He was reportedly a frequent customer of the shop, that also sells EPO, but Makau reportedly only bought supplements. He responded exactly to the points suggested by the German investigator, providing his clarification. It would be unusual to respond to something that wasn't said (and someone would surely consider that an admission too).

He did say they have a different mentality. Every culture can be influenced by outside cultures, creating exceptions.Is an isotonic drink a supplement?Does Renato coach Makau?

He probably wanted to have a statement out there so, when asked about it at the post-Frankfurt press conference, he could say, "I already addressed this in a statement. The allegations in the report are untrue. Next question." That's what I would do whether I had or hadn't used PEDs.

Seppelt should have something more solid on him before even invoking his name. I understand the temptation to do so, but that's wrong.

To quote the man himself: "with God’s Blessings everything is possible", I think it's the Lord that's helped him rather than any PEDs.
