So I've been swimming regularly at the pool these past few weeks and I've noticed alot of the people you would think would be out of shape are able to swim lap after lap without breaks. Maybe they've been doing it for years and have the technique down but I was watching this slightly overweight woman today who clearly didn't have good technique but she was doing lap after lap no sweat.
I was discouraged since I can't swim multiple laps without breaks but I wonder how much of the buoyancy effect of fat helps carry someone through water. Do leaner people like runners have to work harder? When I look at alot of the elite women swimmers they tender to have a high BF percentage and many don't really look like athletes because of this. But elite men swimmers have a much lower BF percentage compared to women. Why is this?
