I get tired of everyone constantly moving up, it just seems like the "friends jumping off the bridge" effect, Webb is NOT built for a marathon
Clearly all about the $$$
New dad gotta get paid.
Webb would not be a bad bet for the Rio 16 marathon team - 34 years old, 20 years of aerobic work in him - if he stays healthy I'd put $1 on him. But not more than that.
I had Hall, Webb and Ritz on the 2016 team in another thread. It was a joke, but maybe it will come true. Is he the next Rod Dixon/Quentin Cassidy?
I just can't imagine Webb running a marathon competitively - his stride really doesn't look sustainable for 26.2 miles.
Maybe a half.
Just so everyone is clear, the word "marathon" does not appear in that article. It just says he is moving up in distance.

When he is racing the mile, I agree with you. If you have ever seen him run 4:50 pace, it looks completely effortless for him.
Although I am not happy to see Alan move that far up, but it's just good to see him stick with it. I saw Rod Dixon make a similar move late in his career and it worked out for him.

"What Webb knows is that he wants to move up to the marathon. As he spent the spring trying to quickly recover from injury and get in shape to run the 5,000 meters at the Olympic Trials, Webb and then-Coach Jason Vigilante noticed that he was thriving in long-distance workouts."

The article says, "What Webb knows is that he wants to move up to the marathon."

Not a direct quote from Webb, but definitely in the article.
This has disaster written all over it. If he lacks the mental stability to run a mile or 5k, I wonder what the marathon will do to him. On a more positive note, I'm a huge Webb fan and I hope he regains his form.
Beat me to it
The NYRR or Boston/John Hancock must be flirting a significant appearance fee to him, much like they did Lauren Fleshman. Hopefully they have stipulations attached so he doesn't half-@ss it.
THE NYRR was talking about getting Webb to do their marathon when he was still a viable 1500-meter runner
If Webb managed to run a sub 2:10 'thon I believe it would give him the widest range ever as a runner. From 1:43 800m to sub 2:10.
I like it. I like it a lot.
I hope he spends some time at 5k/10k first though.
He needs more upper body power to successfully make this transition. Also more ferocity in his mid-race surges.

WOOPS! I guess I should read the entire article before posting, and not just skim it.
