Dude, simple fix...

Buy him a 6 pack of the same sock you wore from walmart or wherever he got them for like $8 and give them to him and say something along the lines of "Hey, man, I'm really sorry I wore your socks, I didn't know about the whole basketball thing, but here's some more socks to make it up to you. I hope you can forgive me."

Its not so much the socks thing as it is the message me online thing... we are roommates after all. also it was one pair of socks. hes acting like i stole his laptop. i"m starting to get the weird vibe

after i used them i took them off and switched to sandals. I put them in my bag, i then dumped my whole bag in my dirty laundry later, forgetting about the socks. Also He is the one who texted ME thats why i think its wierd.

Yeah, it is a little bit odd. He's probably not the coolest guy to hang out with and that sucks, but you can deal with it.

However, you obviously don't know each other very well and it was rude of you to use his socks. Quite rude, in fact. I am actually astonished that you are mad at him for being mad at you. He explained why it was such an issue for him and the reason is very valid. You should follow my advice.

I had to reread that a couple times to make sure I got the gist of it. I'm still not sure. Here's what I managed to figure out:

1) Dude seems fine.

2) There seemed to be a lot of reasons for why you took this guy's socks that aren't 'I saw his socks and took them'. So the rest of the story makes sense, I'm just going to go ahead and assume you saw them, and took them.

3) He gets back to you about it online. The message seemed super chilled. You did thing A, I don't like you doing thing A, I am within my rights to ask thing A does not occur again, and if that's what happens we're cool.

Unless you think it's okay to use another man's underwear for sports, I think he absolutely needed to say something, especially as he needs them to avoid injury. All this comes with experience. Wait until you get tossed into sharehousing proper. I got some tales that will make your hair curl. One guy had a chest freezer with a padlock on it.
