What was your debut and how long did it take you to get under 1:05?
My plan is to work my way down there, but I was honestly expecting to break 1:10 for my debut.

Debut: 1:09:53
PR: 1:05:14
It took me two years to drop 4:39.
Progression: 1:09:53, 1:06:48, 1:08:00, 1:05:30, 1:05:14
How old were you when pr-ing?
Debuted last year in 1.09.35. This year I got a 1.06.55. Both were pretty slow courses and I went out WAY TOO fast on both of them, so I guess there is plenty more time to cut off.
Should've competed at the Worlds this weekend, but a stress fracture in my foot that kept me out all summer obviously prevented my participation.
I'm 24 btw.
He is telling the truth:

I think he did...
"what was your debut"
A: 1:09:53
"how long did it take you to get there"
A: It took me two years
debut: 1:13:04 (in hs, off of 35mpw).
PR: 1:04:32 (8 years later, off of averaging 90mpw for 5 years in a row leading up to it).
Good luck - the half is a fickle race. I've only popped one 1:05 open - and initially when I was in the 1:07-1:09 range I was getting PRs as splits en route to a (disastrous) full marathon.
Debut: 1:33:xx
PR: 1:05:04(hopefully I new one this month)
Took me 8 years.
Even in 8 years, 1:33 to 1:05 is VERY impressive. Were you not very competitive to start? I would like to hear some background if you don't mind.
No I didn't run in high school, I started a bit at 21(20-30mpw), that 1:33 being my first or second race. And began training more seriously at 25.
What part of sub-1:05 didn't you understand from the OP?
Nice progression, though.
All, right, we have a winner!
I've reported all of your posts, alcoholic. I hope they are deleted soon.
Thanks to everyone for the posts. I was a little disappointed running 1:11:45 for my debut and it felt like 1:05 was out of my reach. I feel better now knowing there are other people starting where I started or even slower in some cases.
I like to hear from anyone that is even close to 1:05 because 1:06 is 5:45 closer than me!
A little background before my 1:11:45
I was an above average D1 runner. Right out of college, I gave running up for 6 months in an attempt to "bulk up". After 6 months of lifting and gaining 15-20 lbs of muscle/water/fat, I missed running so got back into it. Trained very hard for 6 months and ran the 1:11:45 three weeks before my marathon debut. I was training specifically for the marathon and did a 100 mile week the week of my half. My marathon was not as great as I expected (2:34:00), so now I am thinking my best shot would be at the half marathon.
Any advice is appreciated.
What's your problem?
