Cooper was a moron who should have gotten sh*tcanned years earlier.
Exactly who did he have compromising pictures of that he got to keep the job so long?
He couldn't beat Michigan, but he kept his job so long because he kept WINNING. He was one of the winningest coaches in the 1990s. He finished with the No. 2 team in the nation twice in the 90s. He had powerhouse recruiting. Problem is he wasn't the manager of people that Jim Tressel is. Tressel is taking a team that was supposed to be a year away to the National Championship Game.
I was most impressed when he was being introduced as the head coach less than two years ago and his college-aged son couldn't attend because he had a class to go to. That's telling right there.
Tressel is a man.
GO BUCKS!!!
On the one hand, they appear to be the worst undefeated team ever, but on the other hand, they certainly find ways to win, and that is the hallmark of a great team.
Obviously I am biased, but I don't quite get the argument that they are the worst undefeated team ever.
Here is a sample of what I mean:
Buckeyes DESTROYED Texas Tech and their Heisman candidate QB 45-21.
Buckeyes PUMMELLED probable Pac 10 champ Washington State and THEIR Heisman candidate QB 25-7.
Buckeyes held offensive powerhouse Penn State and THEIR Heisman candidate RB to 7 points.
Buckeyes have given up an average of 12.2 points per game.
Buckeyes are 13-0 DESPITE not having perhaps the best running back in the country in the game in 5 of those games. When Clarett is in, it is a different team.
Buckeyes play mistake-free football.
Buckeyes dominate on special teams and defense.
Oklahoma won in 2000 with a very similar team.
Ohio State plays in a better conference than Miami.
Miami was losing in the fourth quarter to one-win Rutgers before they pulled out the win.
Ohio State hasn't steamrolled everybody, but that is for two reasons - 1) Big Ten is tough; 2) Clarett wasn't playing in most of the close games.
Look at the games in which Clarett played a bunch:
45-21
51-17
25-7
45-17
27-16
50-7
14-9 (Michigan - the game that is the best rivalry in sports)
Miami might not even make it to the championship game, but I hope they do. Buckeyes match up better with them.
Result on Jan. 3 will be Buckeyes by 10 points.
GO BUCKS!!!

Ohio State is going to get the shit kicked out of them by Miami.
A moron could have won with the talent Cooper had. Oh wait, he did. My elementary school football team used the same blocking scheme as Cooper?s team did. It was laughable. They won only because they were so big, fast, strong, and talented that they overcame poor offensive schemes. One of the schools which I attended played OSU in the Cooper era, and had linemen actually laughing at the OSU team, saying ?They couldn?t play in our offense.? And this was a supposed cupcake victim for OSU which d&mn near beat them.
Like I said, never liked OSU (contrast with ?always hated?), but I think they look really impressive this year, I think Tressel is a terrific coach, and you succinctly summed up their strengths this year.
ru4real,
Well, Miami has to beat Syracuse and Virginia Tech first to even get there, and if you look at the close games Miami has had and the wimpy teams Miami has beaten, you might reconsider.
Miami beat an 8-4 Florida State team only because FSU missed a last second short field goal. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
Miami was losing 17-14 to Rutgers at the start of the 4th quarter before pouring it on. Can't do that with Ohio State.
Miami has only played 10 games so far to OSU's 13 games.
In those 10 games, Miami beat Rutgers, Florida A&M, Temple, Boston College, Connecticut. Real football powerhouses there as opposed to the Big Ten where at least 8 teams a year have very very good football teams.
You say OSU will get the shit kicked out of them. I say OSU will win and win ugly like they have all year. I will come back to this post on Jan. 3 to point out how wrong you were.
GO BUCKS!!!
Ok. Fair enough.
In Cooper's defense though, one thing about the college game is you have to be able to recruit, and he did that and did it well. Tressel is even better. Also, Tressel is a better coach. Next year's team will be even more talented than this one. Oh man!!!
who cares, we all know there'll be a riot whether OSU wins, or loses. GO THUGS! not Bucks, just a bunch of thugs in Columbus, OH
Born and raised in Columbus metro (Worthington), both parents alumni. You can't get Buckeye blood out of you anymore than Nebraskans can get 300lb steroidhusker, I mean cornhusker blood out of them. Go Bucks!
Cooper - had perhaps some of the most talented teams ever to suit up in NCAA football and squandered them with poor coaching. The '96 team was unbelievable and yet blew it in the MI game as usual. Our family did the holiday's at my brother's place in San Diego so we could attend the Rose Bowl (against ASU). Being there in person it literally looked like a pro team (Buckeyes) lining up against a high school team, the difference in size alone. Jake the Snake was the only guy on their squad who even looked qualified to be on the field, and yet he almost singlehandedly beat us due to poor coaching, execution and the like. Had it been a Tressel, Holtz, or any other top coach that game would have been a laugher of epic proportions.
Tressel - this team doesn't compare to some of the Cooper teams for pure talent (outside of Clarett), but the coaching is a huge cut above. It will only get better after this year when more talent will be attracted to the allure of national titles, yeah baby!
Go Oklahoma!!!!!!!
