I'm trying to remember the brand name of some racing flats we used in high school in Kentucky in 1973. They were white with 3 blue stripes on the sides, flat hard soles maybe 1/2 inch thick at the most in the heel area and less on the forefront. Very thin uppers. We used them for everything from cross country to track mid to long distance. Training and racing both. This was in the pre Nike era. Any of you oldsters out there remember? Someone told me they are still in production.

That's my guess too. But the shoe from adidas was the Rom. Puma, as I recall made Romas. But man, the Roms were heavy.

Yes, the Adidas Rom was heavy, and leather. Very popular at that time, although I was always more of a Onitsuka Tiger guy. Here's a photo to the Rom:

I wore Rom's my freshman year of HS XC/track back in '70-71. My coach called them clodhoppers!

I don't recall the Dragon or SL 72 ever coming in white with blue stripes so I'm still betting Roms. As soon as I could get Tigers I too became pretty ,much a Tiger guy too.
