I'm 27, 5'10", 165lbs. trying to break my 800m PB of 2:03 set in 10th grade (got hurt in 11th and tied 2:03 my senior year).
Current 400m: 56s
Current 800m: 2:18 (64/74)
Training last 4 weeks:
Day 1: 4-6 x 350m hills in 1:25 with 3 min recovery.
Day 2: 10 x 100m @~13.8s, 2 min recovery
Day 3: 5miles at aerobic threshold
Day 4: Easy or rest
Day 5: 4 x 800m (first 600 at mile race pace, last 200 at 800 race pace)
Day 6: 8x200m @ 28-29s
Day 7: Rest
After my SLOW TT last week of 2:18 I have decided to add mileage and add workouts that are closer to my race distance, so I modified my training to this:
Day 1: Do a time trial + full recovery + 1x400 @ 60s, 3mile cool down
Day 2: 4 mile run + 7x80m strides
Day 3: 10x60m fast sprints, 3mile cool down
Day 4: Same as Day 2
Day 5: 3x600m, 3-mile cool down
Day 6: 5-6 mile run at anaerobic threshold
Day 7: Rest
Will I be able to reach 2:03 this year? Am I doing this right?
