IMO, advocating for a world class athlete to run for 2nd place is lame. Very lame. Shame on LRC.

Competition shouldn't be about trying to take it easy and run for 2nd place, IMO, unless it's a qualifying heat.

I hope it's a great race, and that both Jelimo and Savinova run hard, and compete completely, ignoring this ridiculous advice from LRC.

Pfft.. 40k on the line, you do what you have to do. Here, that is mark Savinova and finish 2nd.

I agree with the 1500 assessment to but would suggest Gebr may be highly motivated and is clearly on form. He let's it all hang out I predict. There is a lot for him to gain here.

And I'm not so high on Henrik.

Totally disagree.

Track should be about competing, and it should be about competing with all fellow contestants, not simply 6 of the 7 other runners. The 2 greatest female 800m runners in the world racing together, 2 wins apiece for the season, and people suggest Jelimo should dog it? That cheats herself, it cheats Savinova, it cheats the sport, and it cheats all the fans who paid to watch the race.

Following that principle, you'd similarly suggest an athlete with a handy appearance fee simply show up, intentionally false start, and get a DQ to avoid injury, collecting their appearance $$$ along the way. It's a lame attitude toward the (all) sport, imo.

In the NYC Marathon in the fall, some said Emmanuel Mutai didn't aggressively go after Geoffrey Mutai because if he fell back to 3rd place, he wouldn't have gotten that $500,000 World Marathon Majors loot. Sometimes 2nd makes sense.

B-Mart, dipping under 2:00 for the second time with another PB. Anna Pierce with a seasons best under 2, as well.
