Ashmeade beats Gay in Birmingham 200m

I am glad that you started a thread about Ashmeade and his successful win over a pretty formidable 200m squad but this race did not interest me. What I was interested in is how wrong you are about Ashmeade’s potential and how much Yohan Blake’s progression suggests that other athletes will likely improve tremendously as well.

I read a few days ago when you said that Yohan Blake was not uniquely superior to the other athletes this of course coming from someone who have a tendency of miraculously launching bones out their mouth.

My self and others have come to the realization that you have an innate bias in support of good ole Use Steroids Always (USA for short) but that doesn’t take away from your contribution to this BS blog.

Let me cut the chase, you! Like many others just started to pay attention to the Jamaicans sometime after 2005, so your input on superiority is flawed.

Ashmeade has all of a sudden become your new protégé and you are predicting great things from him…OK that’s fine. The interesting thing is that you also mentioned Keston Bledmon and a few other insignificant runners.

The irony about your bold statement is that though Blake isn’t “Uniquely Superior”… Tyson Gay is! And the only other non-American relevant male sprinters you mention are also his (Tyson Gays) training partners.

It seems to me that your knowledge of Track and Field is stuck within the borders of good ole USA, better yet Florida but, that too is just fine.

Is it me or maybe you know more about that National Training Center in Clermont, Orlando and its athletes than you should? I can’t recall ever reading a thread where you implicated an athlete based out of that place except Gatlin and he definitely doesn’t count.

Maybe this explains your conviction of all the Jamaican athletes doping except those who train(s) at the NTC. If I use PED’s and still got my ass kicked of course I would accuse anybody that appeared to be better than me, because it would be impossible for me who is on every PED known to man to lose to someone who is clean.

This is also known as the Carl Lewis/Lance Armstrong syndrome – If all runner-ups are guilty then the winner must be guilty as well.

Ashmeade will never be a true 200m runner even if he goes sub 19.9, and his 100m is even worse but keep pumping him and everyone down there at the NTC Orlando with the J.U.I.C.E (Justin Gatlin’s license plate number) and maybe he will be that star athlete that you wish for.

By the way what happened to Steve Mullings…has he appealed his case as yet or is he busy trying to get US CITIZENSHIP?

Ashmeade is nowhere near Blake this year. Nobody in history has been near Blake, except for Bolt.

I know this 200 was nothing special, and that it will pale in comparison to what Blake will do in Brussels, and what he already did in London.

I'm more interested in him as a 100m sprinter. He's got good aggression at the start, but needs to be a bit more efficient. His 200's show that he has decent SE. He has tried a jump start in the 100m, which wins points from me.

And I used to think that Bledman was a fake, but his consistency at 9.93 this year has shown otherwise. I think that both of them need some confidence. Ashmeade has already caught guys like Frater, Carter, and Clarke in the 100m, and is now probably competitive with Powell, given that Powell is a wank.

I hope to see Ashmeade strong by Rio. I don't know what he's like mentally, but unlike you, I think the potential is there. I can feel it, in my "bones".

Honest to GOD I would prefer to see Ashmeade develop into a true 200/400m runner like he was when he ran in high school.

The problem is I don't know if his camp has the proper system for him to make this transition. Jamaica is filled with young Bolt's right now and with this sudden immergence of Yohan Blake to add to the mix, it is going to be hard for anyone else to shine in the 100/200m for the next 4-6 years.

He (Blake) will of course command his own followers looking to make an impression therefore; trying to make the Jamaican team won't be easy anymore for the second tier runners.

I was most proud of him (Ashmeade) when he decided to go the traditional route and leave Jamaica to train elsewhere. But, why train to become a 100/200m athlete when it is obvious that Jamaica is oversaturated with sprinters right now.

Ashmeade was extremely stronger and more powerful than Yohan over to longer sprint distances during their school days. So I thought that maybe he would move up to the 400m but I guess I was wrong.

Right now the sprinters that I like a lot are:

R. Bailey

K. Bledman

N. Ashmeade (if he switches events)

The only problem that I am having with these 3 is that they need to start dropping times faster in order for me to take them seriously or else medalist from the 2012 World Junior Champs are going to surpass them by 2016.

Shelly-Ann has lost twice to Jeter now. She was able to pull it off at the games but Jeter is dominating now. 10.90 vs 10.81 is a big gap. Of course, 10.90 vs the 10.75 she clocked at the Olympics is an even bigger gap. Wonder what's going on with her.

I just don't think that Jeter is as good a championship performer as SAFP.

Jeter allegedly had some personal or family problems that she was dealing with this year, and I think that put added pressure on her to prove herself, to really nail down something in the world that made sense, something you could work at and realize the fruits of your labors. And for her that is track, but along with that great burden comes just a bit of conservatism, as you don't want to throw everything away by not medaling.

In that context, a silver or a bronze is better than no medal at all. It is recognition, it is a place on the podium, it is hardware--all external rewards that can be important in a time of turbulence. You can give yourself all the internal rewards you want, but sometimes you need affirmation.

So I think she holds back just ever so slightly, or at least doesn't try to exceed what she has recently been doing.

She was running like her life depended on winning, not like her life would be improved by medaling.

This recent trend is just a sign that the pressure is off--Jeter is free to let it all hang out, and SAFP is free to sprint as she feels.
