Attention all fast marathoners that want to make $25k by winning an ultra

How does that work? Surely, an inaugural trail race doesn't have 25k sitting around. Do they take out insurance that would pay out in the event the record is broken?

Ultras are just plod-fests. I'd be embarrassed to be in one - I wouldn't accept the prize money, even.

Yes, they have insurance for the 25k actually. It sounds like Ian Sharman and Mike Morton are likely to run it, and both of them have a realistic shot if they have a good day. That said, there is surely some LRC troll here who could use $25k.

I'm sure any woman who breaks 12:44 is also elgible to claim the $25 grand. Masters and grand masters are eligible too.

Is the Event record an all-comers type record or ia there a women's and a men's recoed.

That's over 1 hour faster than Ann Trason's road world record (13:47:41), and she was no slouch (2:39 marathoner).

Also check out the Run Rabbit Run 100, in Steamboat Springs. Plenty of prize money for you fast runners/big talkers to come take from us slow, plodding, worthless, bearded, hippy, no-talent ultrarunners.

Yeah, these friggin slow a**es like Max King, Mike Aish, Sage Canaday, Michael Wardian, Zeke Tiernan got to just drop out of running all together. Out there plodding along.

That's it? For only 100 miles? Are you sure you don't mean 1,000 miles? Do I have to win a simultaneous blindfolded chess tournament or juggle during the race?

Are you telling me that I ONLY have to run 100 miles under world record pace for an easy $25,000? Sheesh...you guys might as well just mail me the money

I don't know about this one in particular but many of these trial ultras involve a lot of vertical ascent/descent on very tricky, uneven, steep terrain. It's very different from running 100 miles on the road.

You have a point, but did you notice that the race is in INDIANA. Worst case scenario you are talking sand & mud. You are probably more likely to get slowed down by a townie wondering what in tarnation you's doing out here??
