In The Perfect Mile, Santee and Landy both have complete speed based training plans as they're going for the sub-4. Santee's included speed on the track with his team like 4-5 times a week? (Correct me if I'm wrong) And Landy was doing 600yd repeats every night with his Zatopek-inspired training. Also, not to mention Bannister and his 35 min track sessions he had daily while at St. Mary's.
What is the view on these rigorous training schedules today? Are they supposed to peak the athlete as quickly as possible or were they just not as knowledgabe as today's coaches and runners?
