ENOUGH of the talk that leading is sacrificial lamb crap. U.S. champs, Gold Medalists. Farah, El G, our own Benoit for Gold. At U.S. level- Webb, Gabe, Hall, Ritz have led huge races with success. Not for all. But ignorant to dismiss as good option and say it's doing the work.

Viren was the master of leading in a controlled fashion and still having the necessary jets at the end.
Farah led very little of that race.
Farah took over the last 700M. Geb led a lot. Gold, Silver. How'd the followers do?
700 meters is not leading that much of the race... Also the first 3k of that race was so effing slow bc no one really wanted to lead. Leading in the first 50% of the race is suicidal. Leading the last 14% of the race not so much. Unless you are so much better than ur competitor (ie david Rushida in the 800)
Kipsang led about 10 miles of the marathon - Got Bronze.
BTW, most here bash leading every other thread. So don't cry when the correct counter is stated a few times.

Never touched the lead in the first half of either race.
Did not dictate the pace in any way.
Just chose a point near the end to drive for home.
He didn't have to lead that much...

Barcelona 10k, allowed guy from spain lead so Thompson could get a medal.
Barcelona 5, got into lead with 4 laps to go ran progressive 62,61,60 and dropped 55
Prefontaine 10k , stayed in the back avoiding the pushing and shoving in front and applied same tactic as he did in Barcelona
And others are just classics sit and kick ,but not with lap to go, minimum of 700m , he never leaves it very last lap to get into that lane one.
Farah knows now he can win any kind of race against what the world has to offer. Fast or slow. Why would he bother making it fast himself? Just stay out of trouble and cross the line first.
