Back before Duane's 1:43, Gray saw him crush a workout and then guaranteed a medal for Duane.
I've now given it QOD status.
Gray says Solomon did a 700/300 workout with the 700 in 1:27.72 - that's 1:40.26 800 pace. The 200 was 34.21.

Besides fitness, what other evidence to you think should be looked at? Solomon's race tactics are perfect for any race with Rudisha. DBang loves to follow a fast pace.

Solomon really came out of nowhere this year. I agree with Gray that he has a chance to medal today if it's a fast pace. And I would bet money that he finishes ahead of Symmonds, who also has an outside shot to medal.
I could see Solomon running 1:43 low for the silver or bronze today.

Johnny Gray isn't some anonymous poster on LR making predictions based on something he heard that happened in a workout. He is the Coach. No one knows Solomon's potential better than he does.
That 700/300 workout is super impressive, I cant imagine too many guys in the world could handle a workout like that right now. Very excited to see Solomon in the 800 final today. He's clearly got medal and sub 1:43 fitness in him if the race is right.

yeah, a 700m in 1:27 is equivalent to running
400m in 50 sec
200m in 25 sec
100m in 12 sec
without stopping. pretty impressive.
i wonder how long the recovery was before the 300m?

The funny thing is if Duane was from another country everybody on LR would be crying he's doped up. He's gone from not even having the A standard at the Trials to 142.8. And if he stays in Europe and gets in another big race with Rudisha he will have the American record as well.
