Tony McQuay split somewhere between 43.5 and 43.7. There was an official split on the guy in front of him at 44.75 and he made up well over 10m on him.

From the video it looked like Kenya was ahead of South Africa but there is not a good camera angle? The Kenyan also said his shoe was spiked. Did they say he cut in too early when going around the South African? Maybe he did not get far enough ahead before moving to the inside lane and that is why they called it his fault.

Wariner is out of the games with a hamstring injury. Merritt is out with injury. Who is going to the final for the US. They typically go to the 400H men. I wouldn't be surprised to see Michael Tinsley or Angelo Taylor or both in the final. Can Wallace Spearmon run a 400? He has a 45.22 PR from 2006.

Will South Africa run Pistorius in the final? They didn't in Daegu. Purely from a strategic point of view he is a liability because he could run 45 or he could run 47 or he could crash out.

I'm really pumped for this one. It should be a real race.

You can run 10 4x4 teams on a 9-lane track, they did it at CA HS State Championships this year. I think they had the 10th team start at the 1-turn stagger in lane 4 or something like that. It's not a perfect solution, but not impossible, either.

SA is the 9th team into the final so it just means there won't be an empty lane. I assume they will be in lane 1

I assume they've got a 9 lane track here for just this kind of protests reason.

SA's runner that went down looked like he might have gotten himself hurt in the process, so I'm not sure if they've got anyone else they could run instead of Oscar that would be an improvement.

The 9 lane track/eight person final is a weird thing in my opinion. It makes sense that they should only guarantee 8 to the final in case they have to advance someone on appeal. But when there is no protest/appeal then it makes no sense to fill only 8 lanes. The fastest non qualifier should be allowed to appeal and be placed in the final as long as there are lanes available.

What happens if there are two very obvious cases that should be advanced to the final on appeal? Maybe a crazed fan tackles two teams in the home stretch. Should the IAAF change the rules so there are no time qualifiers? All of the fastest losers must appeal to be placed in the final on the basis of available lanes/spots.

Who was the first man on that relay? Maybe I saw it wrong but he looked out of his league. If there was anyway we could get someone else in there I would do it. Surprised to say this but the US actually has a medal shot if they can fix that lead off leg.

Yes, it looked bad on that lead off leg. As incredible as it is Manteo Mitchell broke his leg during the race (at 200m) and still ran 46 low.

He won't be able to run the final. Pure guts though to get the stick around.
