A man can dream.
A man can dream.
I want this to be true so badly my fro hurts.
You don't run an Olympic final of any kind just to workout. If that is his mentality someone needs to get him straight on a few key points. Olympics = the Big Show

Key points? What big show? The big show that nobody else in his country could match a college kid at either distance?
If this is true then Levins should be DQ'd from the 5000 a la the Algerian dude that dogged the 800 but blasted his heat in the 1500.
...clearly Levins did not put forth an honest effort in the 10000, I mean a Canadian not finishing in the top 5 in the 10K?!?!? That's fishy.
I'm afraid not.
“I was there with the best in the world for 24 laps,” Levins said. “I just don’t have the strength yet to kick with them.”

The good news for Levins is that he looked like Galen Rupp in 09' World Championships. He had an impressive college season in the spring but now in August he is a little burnt out, yet had a respectable run.

How can you say that he's burnt out now? He's just out of college but managed to hang on with the lead group for 96% of the Olympic 10k final. This is exceptionally impressive for him right now and he never did anything that indicated he could do better than this, so I don't see any evidence of him being burnt out here.

90% of all people who ever call a runner "burnt out" don't know what they're talking about.

Let's put this in perspective (look at the PBs)
1 - Farah 26:46
2 - Rupp 26:48
3 - T. Bekele 27:03 (12:52 - 5000)
4 - K. Bekele 26:17
5 - Mushiri 27:05
6 - Tadese 26:37
7 - Medhin 27:16 (13:04)
8 - Gebremarian 26:52
9 - Arikan 27:38 (13:05)
10 - Kipsiro 27:04 (12:50)
...
and ahead of
12 - Masai 26:49
13 - Ritz 27:22 (12:56)
Last 8000m at 27:05 pace...
Only total beasts beat him. With the exception of Medhin and Arikan perhaps. But both of them are pretty good in the 5000m (3 or 4 seconds faster than collegiate record good)...

This is exactly correct.
Great race Cam
Beat everyone in Asia, everyone in the Americas except Rupp, and all Europeans except Farah.
That's right. He got the non-African bronze.
"Burnt out" from a long season, not career. He'll be much stronger in seasons to come.

Unfortunately, hanging on for 96% of the race is not that impressive if your goal is to medal. Everyone knows the real racing is done in the last 400 ish.
this is pretty disgraceful, he could get banned from the 5k for admitting he didn't try his hardest
the rules of the olympics say if you compete you cant BS it .. if he doesnt like those rules he should stay at home olympics is a priveleige not a rite
When did he say this? Link?
Doesn't this dude do 130 - 140 miles a week? No sh*t he's Olympic-caliber; he's doing Olympic-caliber training.
Really am rooting for this kid. But I wonder, this is the level he's at running like 150 miles a week. To get better, is he gonna just keep upping that to 170, 190? Seems like he's already maxed out his training in terms of mileage. I mean, how much more can a guy train?

He keeps refining what he's been doing, which doesn't necessarily mean just doing more miles.
He doesn't need 190, he just needs to run his 150 faster.
He needs to start training with a weight vest.
