I, like so, so many of you, can't stand the oblivious Carol Lewis, the well-meaning but horrible Larry Rawson, or the other bad US track announcers.
However, Tom Hammonds is the man; he seems well-informed, does'nt talk about the things he knows nothing about, and defers to the experts...who are unfortunately usually people like Carol Lewis.
ps. Dwight Stones is ok, but did he have a face lift?

I agree. He probably knows less about the subtleties and inner workings of the sport, but has the best delivery in the business. He knows when to get excited and when to shut up. A pro.
He is the consummate professional and treats the job as such. The funny part of this story? He really doesn't care for track at all! He finds it dull and uninteresting. An aquaintence knows him and he has complained bitterly in the past about being "stuck" with covering track.
It is amazing that a non-fan can do such a great job on a telecast while passionate fans like Rawson and Lewis continually make asses of themselves and annoy the core track audience.

thanks for the insight PR...but i disagree w/your assesment of rawson, find him passionate and informative on track events. dwight is THE field man...rawso does sound rediculous w/football references.

Hammond's main sport is horse racing, and he knows a lot about how to make two minutes exciting. Those skills seem to stand him in good stead in track by humans as well.
