The T&F events can't come fast enough for me. I wish NBC would change it's airing policy and broadcast live. I may just keep myself in an electronic drought so I can avoid a spoiler.

With the two defeats he suffered at the hands of Blake during the Jamaican trials and all the press it received, I think the situation is going to push Bolt harder than ever before. Blake is harder working, hungrier, talented as heck and a few years younger. I don't think Usain is going to take the 'wait till 2016' attitude. If a legend status is what he seeks, the time is now. Gone will be the 80m chest thumping and slowing up at the finish line against lesser opponents. I think he will be driving hard for the line and gritting his teeth like never before. We will finally have true 'leave it all on the track' performances.

A perfect storm has brewed and we are about to witness it.

This cuts both ways, though. One reason Bolt was so fast was his utter relaxation. Trying harder is not always better.

You bring up a good point and one that I've considered but Bolt is no Asafa and we must remember that he and Blake are good friends. Not that it lessens the rivalry, but I think he will be relaxed enough. I don't think his losses to Blake were as much mental as they were in his physical preparedness. There were some mentions of his being slightly injured too.

But Bolt is not as fast/fit as he was in 2008. Accordingly, an all out Bolt in 2012, is not the same as an all out Bolt in 2008.

I don't think he will come close to topping 2008.

Yes, his fitness was not at the 2008 level but he wasn't that far off and has probably worked his ass off to get there now. As was the case with 2008, I think his main focus will be to win vs the world record but now he has Blake to beat. If winning means breaking the WR, I think he can do it. Remember, all those WRs he broke in 08' were during the Olympics and not before. One thing you can't dispute is that he has a way of pulling off big surprises.
