Three men die taking bullets for their GFs in Aurora

That is the ultimate sacrifice but one I would make in a heartbeat. If such a heaven, paradise, or whatever it is does exist, these guys are going there!

Let me be more specific.

If it were my wife of 30 years who has faithfully stuck with me through thick and thin, through all of the rough times...hell yeah, I would take a bullet for her.

But some girlfriend of like 7 months? No way! Who knows, she might have plans to dump me the next freaking day.

I'd take a bullet for anyone in that situation. I agree with the NRA of 1960s vintage, however, that we should have much stricter gun laws for public safety.

i bet their respective gf's feel terrible about all the other guys they slept with during their relationships

I think you have it wrong.

The three guys dove trying to save their girlfriends lives but naturally at the same time ducked down trying to avoid the bullets.

They did not stand in front and block the bullets.

I'm not saying myself that I would have been brave enough to do the former or the latter.

But history says in certain cultures, bodyguards are trained to stand up, face the gunman to draw fire towards themselves, and block the bullets on behalf of their client.

Similar to those three guys, when Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinkley, Jr, the Secret Service agents dove onto Reagan trying to avoid being shot (which they were not).

I have to admire anyone taking a bullet for someone in a situation like this. I used to do security at a hospital and one day after I had gotten off work we had an emergency. They called it out over the PA system and all I could think about was how I better get the hell out of there. I was off the clock and I'm not some kind of comic book super hero.

They are heroes and should be honored. But I would much rather these men have been legally armed themselves and taken this maniac out. They might have survived and the idiot that did this would be dead. Now the victims and families have to go through a trial where this idiot gets more headlines.

I would much rather this never happened and nobody died.

That was a soldiers death but no medals would be given out. Millions of soldiers have died protecting their buddies in a similar manner. If the Army gave out medals every time someone died in battle that would minimize the truly heroic deaths.

What weapon could they have legally armed themselves with that would have allowed them to take down a guy in full body armor? Would you like to see guys dragging battleship deck guns around with them?

There is no body armor that can stop an AR-15 .223 round or any high power rifle round for that matter. If someone had a .223 in the theatre Holmes could have been killed. Holmes used an AR-15 himself.

I hear what you are saying, unfortunately, Aurora, like Chicago and DC, has very strict gun laws. Unless you are a police officer or at a shooting range, it is illegal to fire a firearm within the city limits.

By the way, on the flip side of this story, a young woman attended the movie with her two young children and fiance. Once the shooting began, he ran, leaving her and the children. Another young man helped all three get out safely. When she finally was able to call her fiance, he had just left and was driving home.

So your vision of an ideal world includes all men carrying around assault rifles at all times? Perhaps you'd be happier living in the Middle East.

you also left out the fact that it was a dark movie theater with some kind of gas clouding the air and the killer was dressed in all black. had multiple guys had assault rifles and tried to shoot the killer, a lot more innocent people would have been killed by all of their stray bullets.
