Someone explain why the NCAA feels their sanctions against PSU is more justice for crimes committed and dealt with in the public justice/court system.
As a sport governing body, they are punishing the whole university in revenue, student admissions, other worthy programs that have nothing to do with what happened including other sports programs on campus, local economy etc...
The question posted was will this impact other sports on campus. Heck yes it will, their Big 10 reputation has been tainted for some time until people are ready to move on. That means tv revenue, ticket sales, retail, shared bowl game revenue etc... that is used to support other programs on campus including minor sports.
Wrestling might be the lone survivor without impact but we'll see. I think if they can find a way to overcome this without it hurting their program then the other sports will have a chance too. It will be easier with a guy like Sanderson at the helm and winning an NCAA title though.
I just don't get how the NCAA sanctions against current students serves as a penalty in a crime of this nature and feel it's quite a large bit of piling on and chest thumping to save their own necks/pathetic reputation.
For Heaven's sake, how much money is the NCAA raking in from football revenue and how much are they willing to kick in to help payback some restitution since PSU is one of their member schools? I haven't heard they feel the need to help make ammends other than doling out punishment.
