He threw 61.58 at the Jim Thorpe Cup
He threw 61.58 at the Jim Thorpe Cup
Actually 61.68m
That is a few feet beyond 200'. This is pretty amazing considering he was throwing around 150' just a few years ago. Obviously his maturity is helping, but he is blessed with one of the greatest decathlon coaches in history in Harry Marra.
Eaton's PRs now add up to 10043 Points. Gonna be an interesting next few years!
Knowing he will not hit his PR in all the running events during the Dec you know that is not obtainable yet.
But also knowing that he still has several hundred points he could gain over the next 4 years in the throws and maybe in high jump and pole vault a few more too. Close to the 10k mark may not be 100% out of the picture!
I he does eventually score 1,000 points, he will be in serious discussion as the greatest athlete of all time.
I read the article this weekend in outside magazine, detailing the offseason/precompetition training of Hardee. Does anyone know if such a thing exists somewhere for Eaton? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the flood of recent sensational performances suggests that stuff like SARMs, GW501515, Aicar etc. has been well established within the athletic community. In running, the onset of new doping methods is so well visible that it's almost funny. The sudden dramatic drop after the announcement of the first anti-EPO test (2000), then a new "renaissance", a deep downfall after the test against proteases in 2006, and again a stellar improvement during the last 2 years.
I hear he does crossfit during the offseason
Actually,Ashton inherited something that is going to make him the greatest decathlete in history. While his African Anerican father may have been an absentee father,he passed through his genes to Ashton something all the motherly loving in the world could not have giving him. And, that is
incredibble athletic ability.

Except that incredible African American athletes have never shined in the decathlon. The best I can remember was Chris Huffins.

Ahem:
Rafer Johnson, silver 1956 Melbourne, gold 1960 Rome
The greatest decathlete to date Daley Thompson,Nigerian father.Dan O'brien, black father.Rafer Johnson gold Rome, Milt Campbell gold Melbourne, both African Americans.
Seems like mixed race athletes have excelled in the Decathlon. I gues they just got a little bit of everything. And its like they say... Muts make the best pets!
But stop the drug talk. Eaton has been awesome at the decathlon since day one, he has never needed drugs. And if he was on them throws would probably not be his weak point.
All that is wishful thinking and I do hope you are right, but look at the performances... they are not humanly possible.
It's strange, but I actually believe that this is one of the few clean world records. I am usually one to believe that most top athletes are on something... But in this case, I feel that he may actually be clean.
