It's pretty interesting as everyone thinks of Stanford and distance but they had two non-distance Olympians on the team this year and are getting one next year.
Aldrich Bailey - 45.13
The much better runner as far as I'm concerned. He broke Jeremy Wariner's state record. He will be a gold medalist one day trust me.
Texas A&M snatched him up. They just keep getting better...
Bailey did have a poor world juniors and Solomon beat him there, but a 45.13 early probably indicates an early peak and you know that Texas A & M knows what to do with a 400m runner. He will score a lot of points for them and help them no doubt to more national championships. Stanford's really helping itself with the Solomon pickup, because he's proven he is a championship runner and should be in the 44s soon enough and a Stanford team that covers its weakness in the sprints can become a national contender if its distance recruiting is as good as in the past. Don't they have some real quality recruits this year?

Insane statements. He is not a "much" better runner, the better one? Probably. But Solomon at his peak was not challenged so who knows. His national champs were in April where he went 45.54 winning. He's just starting to race again the past month and is winding back into top shape. I think it'd be wise to see how the season ends.

It's possible he could be a gold medalist, but anyone stating it as if it's a foregone conclusion is border line insane in the membrane.

Well I'd say pretty good. Keep in mind the top 10 high school 400m guys could put together a 4x4 that I bet would make it in the finals in the Olympics.
Granted we have a few kids a year run 45 400m, let alone all the kids running 20 point in the 200m, so even if not all the top 10 kids per year do not succeed in the pro's doesn't mean they are not successful. In America we have the highest standards in the 400m. Its our best event and are so deep that you can be a top 10 high school kid and still be a top ten athlete in many countries.
I mean hell...look at the last couple NCAA 4x4's. A lot of these college teams are better than most countries.
Bailey will probably get another gold medal in the 4x400 one day

Ok, well if we're talking about the 4*400 i guess the odds are higher. But 4 years from now is still quite a gamble that he'd be in the pool, although quite possible. But really when you say this person will be a gold medalist when talking about the 400, that kind of implies you mean in the 400, not in a relay.
I hope it happens someday for Bailey and a 1 second improvement puts him right in the mix for the gold, but note also that Luguelin Santos, the world junior gold medalist, is already maybe .7 s ahead of him.
