Who you got? I don't care whether it was a decathalon or crossfit competition, I think Hardee would dominate any physical competiton between the two.

In summary there is no lift a cross fit athlete of any caliber can do that Trey Hardee can not do so the weights they put on in competition would be like warm up sets to him and he would blow through them. I saw where Froning can do 70 pull us, an that is probably about the only thing he would beat Hardee in. But if you watch his other videos he does a lot of general conditioning and stuff with gymnastics so the rope climbs and pull ups would not pose too much of a threat.
HARDEE HANDS DOWN, DEC OR CROSS FIT!
you want to look up a guy called Richard Vint too. Was a very decent runner in his late teens / early 20's, think he ran about 3.45 1500m. Much more bulked up now, does these cross fit, gym type competitions now. That said, not sure he could compete with Hardee in some of those lifts
To think that a decathlete could be competitive in CrossFit means that you do not fully understand the concepts behind physical conditioning. Decathletes get to take prolonged breaks between each effort and therefore do not have to be as physically conditioned as a CrossFit athlete who must maintain a high level of intensity without the breaks. That is why CrossFit is a much better test of strength, conditioning, fitness, and overall athleticism than a decathlon. The strength that some decathletes display is impressive, but I would highly doubt that any decathlete would crack the top 100 on the CrossFit national scale whereas top CrossFit athletes could compete on a national level in the decathlon.
Test of Athleticism? Hardee would smash this cross fit guy in any power event, thus most sports. The only event he probably would lose to the cross fit guy in dec would be 1500. He would beat the cross fit guy in many cross fit events. Football basketball baseball hockey or any other real sport, Hardee would crush, hes a beast!
and you're an ignorant jackass! Trey, Ashton, etc, are not as physically conditioned??? It is apparent that you have zero knowledge of even the most basic Exercise Physiology.
Seriously, this is beyond ridiculous. I would pay to see some of you crossbitch twits show up at mid-season backyard decathlon and try to beat a conference-level decathlete... much less a national or world class deca!
Crossfit games are different every year. Decathlon is always the same. So athletes can be measured year to year on how they are actually progressing.
Look at the objective numbers.
It would be easy to find out. Hardee or somebody else at his gym enjoys posting videos of him working out. Their gym has everything necessary to do most of these CF workouts. The CF workouts are all public information, he could pick a few and do them to see how he compares to Froning. Probably the most famous CF workout is called Fran. Let's have Hardee post video of him doing Fran, that's the benchmark most crossfitters use to compare themselves.
better yet, since the best decathletes on the planet are traditionally called the "worlds greatest athlete", lets see you crossbitch twits show up at a decathlon... afterall, you are the guys pumping your chest that you're the greatest athletes.
The modern decathlon is 100 years old this season... 'crossfit' is not even a tenth of that. You d-bags step into our arena!
First of all, the OP appears to be on the decathlete side of the discussion. Second, I never made any claims on either side. I only suggested what would probably be the easiest way to compare the two. Hardee could spend less than 5 minutes doing a workout in a gym already equipped for him, or Froning could go seek out a decathlon event. Would you care to argue about which would be logistically easier? No need for so much anger, they're both great at what they do.
Rich Froning's pr is much higher than 255 for the clean and jerk. He did a clean ladder as the second workout of the day for the championships and cleaned 345. He went from 245, upping the weight 10 lbs every 30 seconds until he failed at 355. He recently snatched 275. That's what Trey is power cleaning in the video, 275, with ample rest. Rich did a snatch ladder up to 275 with jumping rope in between. Sorry guys but Rich is stronger than Trey and is fitter. That's what he trains for. Trey trains specifically for events in the decathlon. Rich trains for anything that is involved with Crossfit. Rich essentially trains to be really good at weight lifting and body weight movements.

HARDEE HANDS DOWN, DEC OR CROSS FIT!
I just dont understand. If crossfit athletes are so much better why have they not won any olympic or world championship medals. Would the be frowned on?
Froning has won two world championships. Just because it's not in your sport doesn't mean it didn't happen. Crossfitters haven't won Olympic medals because their chosen sport isn't an Olympic sport. The greatest football players in the world haven't won any medals either. All of these athletes are great at what they do, why do runners have such a hard time with that?
what about Curtis Beach, does he have good aerobic capacity? or would a cross fit competitor have better stamina?
Hardee. This thread is a joke.

Haha x ∞
Exactly. Its just that CrossFit crosses over to different sports much better than the decathlon. For example, NFL teams have shown interest in Froning and other top CrossFit athletes, but the same can not be said for decathletes.
Comparing the two is like comparing Jim Ryun to that of El G
If a crossfit athlete could compete at a high level in the Deca there would be a lot more Crossfit guys at the Olympic trials attempting it. The Trials wouldn't interfere with their training or any notable events in the CrossFit competition schedule.
Day 1
100 metres
Long jump
Shot put
High jump
400 metres
Day 2
110 metres hurdles
Discus throw
Pole vault
Javelin throw
1500 metres
Why Trey Hardee is the guy everyone is talking about is the strange thing, Eaton has the world record, Hardee has never scored over 8790.
Simply put,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItDWedJpwpw
Trey Hardee could not perform a lot of these events at this level unless he quit the deca which would mean Trey would be a crossfit guy not a deca guy.

Rich would not be a Crossfit guy if he spent all his time learning the technical aspects of the throws and Jumps.
and again, you're an idiot... Former NFL'ers/decathletes - Shawn Wilburn, Avery Anderson just to name a few.
What can Rich run for 60m/100m? I seriously doubt 6.6/10.3
