45.4 at 16, 20.xx at 16, 19.93 at 17. Not too unrealistic that he runs 19.19 as an adult. How much has the average athlete improved from age 17 to seniors...
Finally a sensible comment. Notice that he was a 200m and 400m specialist back then.
Unbelievable, undeniable physical talent. 6'5" and built like a horse. Michael Jordan of sprinting. Best thing for track in a decade
I improved from 22.65 for 200m at 17 to 21.16 at 23. Sometimes you just have to recognize that talent you cant even comprehend exists.
I watched that the other night here in London... quick question, I was able to witness to Rugby guys from Claremont run a workout near Hyde Park in trainers (Pegasus-type).
They ran 8 x 200m in 23.1-24.0 (standing starts) with 200m walk.
Does anyone else find this impressive? I thought it was, definitely not as fluid as a track athlete, but powerful, quick, and quite strong. These boys had some speed.
I think there would have either been a flying start or incorrect timing. If you can run 8x200m with about 200walk or (4-5min) rec in 23 you can run low 46 to high 45 seconds for 400m.
That same session was completed in about 23.5 seconds by Alberto Juantorena. I'm from Australia and Rugby fans/coaches are notorious for generalizing times. I.e So and so runs 10.2 for the 100m when in reality its 11.2
Clermont, the French side? I'd say yes, that is a very impressive session. Presumably not all of them were able to do this? I can imagine someone like Fofana maybe doing it, but even so that's very impressive
Those rugby times didnt happen. 8x200m in 23 in flats with 200m walk rec. Thats 8x200m in 22sec w/spikes w/4min rec. They would have to be clocking 44 flat for 400m. Im sorry but either he lied or is easily mislead
To put it in perspective Bolt would run 20.2 at best at his peak in heavy flats as the poster described. 8x200m at 23 is close to 90% for Bolt in those shoes with 4min recovery. Bolt couldnt do it. Please think before you post nonsense
Why are people still all over Bolt's nuts? Blake is better than him now.
Agreed. Pegasus type shoes are pretty heavy probably alittle over half a sec per 100m and the standing start, so bolt might be closer to 21 in them and thats at his peak. I will bet my house they dont do a single rep standing start in pegasus flats in 23. That one rep is mid 21 in spikes. ffs
Blakes better.... Really... And when has he run 9.6x let alone 9.5x. How many individual records does he hold?

I said Blake is better NOW, which he is.
Last year Blake ran 2 wind corrected 9.82 100m compared to Bolt's one. Blake also ran a 19.26 200 with a horrible reaction time compared to Bolt's 19.4. Blake also destroyed Bolt in the both the 100 and 200 at the Jamaican Trials. Blake is the next big thing. If you can't see that by now you're hopeless.
That race in Jamaica as slightly misleading. Both Bolt and Powell were slightly injured and ran to qualify. Asafa and Bolt eased up once they knew they were in the top 3 although they couldn't beat Blake. We cannot say Blake is the best thing since sliced bread since he has never beaten Bolt at his best. He is in the conversation now but trials and Olympics are two different animals.
If they are fully fit in London we will see something different. Blake is good but at their best he is only 3rd on that list ATM. He does have fitness and youth on his side.

Disagree with that last statement. There's every chance Bolt comes back and beats Blake, but I just can't see Powell doing so. Blake beats Powell 10 times out of 10 IMO
Not necessarily. Asafa is never at his best on the big day. If he is in 9.7 shape against lesser runners he runs 9.8-9.9 against Bolt or Blake.
It's all down to confidence. That is why I said that. Asafa is faster than Blake in the 100m. He just always lets his nerves get the better of him. He has been finishing 5th in 100m finals when he was clear favourite. On the start line he looks like he is about to throw up or faint and doesn't want to be there. Gay is totally focussed and Bolt and Blake just have fun to relax.
Asafa in the big moment looks like a man that would rather be anywhere other than there. Remember his PB is 9.72. He hasn't approached that when it counts. I hope he does because he deserves some redemption.
Bolt will beat Blake in the 100m and 200m.
