That is a very sad story. Sounds like she was a very accomplished academic student. Always just hate to hear about incidents like this. I lost a relative that died while running and two friends that died while cycling - just tragic.
Heartbreaking
Heart breaking. As the parent of a college runner, I just can't imagine the grief the parents and family, friends and team are going through. My sympathies and prayers to them all.
struck by a pickup truck. we all have been luck to narrowly avoid many a vehicle. it's just a matter of time or bad luck because drivers pay zero attention to runners and scant attention to basic traffic rules.
A DUI, I believe.
It looks like alcohol or drugs might have been involved. Tragic.
Awful! RIP Gabby!
Looks like the same scumbag was arrested for something else later the day.

Very sad story.
Also, the guy who killed her had been arrested for threatening people with an ax at a McDonald's the week before he killed her, and the day after he killed her he was arrested again on an outstanding warrant after driving into a utility pole. Why was this guy out on the streets?
what a terrible tragedy. In Pennsylvania, the driver faces a mandatory 3 year minimum, if convicted of homicide while dui.
"Cise, who lives in Dover, faces previous charges from an incident in Rockaway Borough last week, where local police said he demanded free food from a McDonald's on Route 46 while wielding an axe. He was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and released."
Lock 'em up! What was this guy doing, walking/driving around free, after he had allegedly threatened people with an ax? More on this scumbag:

Message board racists, please note: he's a white guy.
I fervently hope that this guy will spend the rest of his days behind bars. In particular, I hope he will never have another opportunity to reproduce himself.
Horrible
Was it some redneck ahole from the bible belt?
So this guy threatens the McDonalds workers with an axe, is let go so that he can drive drunk, hit and kill a woman... but is ultimately picked up on a warrant for hitting a utility pole? WTF? Priorities?
I am so sorry to hear this truly tragic news. My heart goes out to the Reuveni family and the WashU program. I hope they can at least find comfort in knowing that she died doing something that she loved. Rest in peace.
Truly tragic. Even running against traffic and constantly being aware, you are never truly safe on the road.

Terribly sad for the family - my condolences to them.
Explain the running AGAINST traffic - don't cyclists ride with traffic?
Why would it be different for runners? Explain????

So you can see what's coming...
This isn't some sort of unwritten rule. It's common knowledge and in some places, the law. Bikes go with traffic as they are considered to be no different than a car or truck, they need to obey the laws of the road. Pedestrians have different rules.
I've been waiting to post. But first my condolences to family.
The running community should take note of the southern California biking communities accident website (http://bikinginla.wordpress.com)
(Consequently, this woman who was run down sounds alot like
a rage accident that happened/documented in the website above only it was a cyclist who killed.)
At his website they post images of road ragers, accident scenes, tributes and mugshots (if available) but local running communities should start something like that website.
