In addition to breaking Branen's Cdn junior record, McBride is now ranked #1 in Canada this year. Too bad he didn't do that a few weeks earlier, otherwise he'd be on his way to London...
He's still a junior next year...

I just realized that this is 0.4s faster than Granville's legendary US HS record...
Where is he heading? Could be a NCAA hitter right out of the gate.
This kid is so good it is scary--another year of junior and has 46 speed over the 400m. I expect Garry Reed's National record will be gone in 3 years. Great to see.
wish he would get more attention for this.

Mississippi State
He's going to Mississippi State and has personal bests of 46.55 for 400m and 1:46.07 for 800m. That time is unofficially the new Canadian High School record and is faster than Granville's US record. He is a legitimate high school age - born in 1994.
Well done Brandon. North American High School best. 1:46.07

Not a bad recruit
Note that Wes Vazquez (same age) from Puerto Rico ran 1:45.29 in the same race.

Has there ever been a faster recruit in the 800m in the history of the NCAA?
Quite a step between "not a bad recruit" and the best recruit "ever"...
The obvious problem when you are the best recruit ever is that the likelihood of the coach knowing what to do with you is very low...
Not wanting to split hairs too much, but I think Julius Achon had run 1.45.x when he was recruited for George Mason, and there may well be one or two others.
But yes, McBride is right up there among the best 800m recruits ever
