I'm just curious, but where does the 200 grand come from to possibly pay someone who earns it in picking the trials finishers? You guys go off and take down a bank or have some kind of pyramid scheme or something? Just wondering.

You're late to the party. The thread is elsewhere. It's only $10,000 year.

That's still a lot. Do you think Wejo expects to have an extra 10G's sitting around for the next 20 years? It's probably an insurance policy, like "hole-in-one" insurance at a golf tournament.

There was another thread on it and I didn't remove it but I can't find it. But we don't do insurance here. $200,000 sounds like a lot but over 20 years it's not too bad. Plus you've got like ten million to one odds of hitting it.
But we're nice, we let you change your picks throughout the trials to make it easier for you.
Are you putting a personal guarantee on the pay-out? The odds are astronomical, but still, I can't imagine that you would want to pay someone (or their estate) $10,000 a year for the next twenty years.
Damn! You're a bold man, my friend!
I don't see why you would want to even do this contest... It's not like you take in any money... I think
The odds of hitting this (perfect score) are astronomical. I heard the website that promised $10 MIL for picking all 63 games in the NCAA BBall tourney cost them less than $50k in insurance. It is like getting struck by lighting in the same place - seven times. I am sure one of the many geeks on this board can compute the odds (assume 32 entrants per event, placing 1-2-3 in correct order, for - what - 24 events -- make it easier, assume the population of possible 1-2-3 spots comes from only 15 per event).

If there is someone who reads Letsrun who can calculate the odds, I haven't yet seen him. The outcomes are not random here. Certain outcomes are favored over the rest. How one would go about calculating the risk is way beyond my paygrade. I am sure, the odds are less - much less - than random.
its impossible...there is always some unknown white guy no one has ever heard of that has the race of his life and makes the team....

Yes I'm putting a personal guarantee on it. Sure I wouldn't want to have to pay it out but a man's word is a man's word.
As for the contest we do it one because I like doing the picks myself and want to kick all of your butts. And sure it costs us a decent amount of money (you guys are pretty cheap and don't seem to buy anything from our sponsors) but we don't do the contests too often.

Ouch!
Actually, I wear RRS shorts/socks all the time. Do you get credit if we link from letsrun.com?

Ditto. I buy from RRS a lot. I may even be a club member (VIP?). Does Letsrun benefit if we link from there?
