Wow, what disgrace. What is the story behind this other than he is an idiot? Did something happen in the race?

It's not as big of a deal as people are going to make it out to be. that's all i can say for sure. Messing with a mascot is somewhat commonplace. how he did it was blatant and probably has some sort of story behind it, otherwise w/e NBD IMO. He must like the tough guy image.

Ever been to a college football game? The mascots beat on each other all the time. I once watched the Scarlet knight beat the shit out of the Nittany Lion right there on the field in front of 100,000+ fans. Mascots are a savage breed. I really wouldn't worry about the costumed thug.
That was a 14 year old kid in the costume that he pushed. It's not funny.

Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat reports on July the 1st 2012 about an episode that happened at the European Athletics Championships 2012 in Helsinki. After the 3000 meter steeplechase final, Mekhissi-Benabbad pushes the games mascot trying to give him a small trophy. Inside the mascot is a 14-15 year old girl. His behavior can be seen on Youtube Another Finnish newspaper Iltalehti has pictures of the incident. The girl tries to hand him a gift at the finish line. He knocks the gift off the girl's hands and pushes her. She had the wind knocked out of her but suffered no other injuries.
This is the same guy who got in a fist fight with Mehdi Baala after a race last year. It's on youtube too

His coach gave an interview in which he stated that he gave him explicit instructions to leave the track in a specific way. That stupid mascot got in the way. You can't blame Mahiedine, he was doing exactly what his coach asked him to do.
