Finish Tiimes: 1/10,000th of a second is possible.

One issue is that the point to break the finishing plane is, as far as I know, not defined to a tight enough tolerance to warrant +/- 0.0001s timing, which is approximately +/- 1mm when traveling 10.00 pace in the 100m. That's really small, like twice the thickness of my fingernails.

Does the rule say first point on the torso to cross the line? Where does the torso start? Singlet or flesh? How thick is the singlet material? Additionally, the straightaway on the track isn't even measured to this tolerance, much less the full 400m oval. I would guess that a 100m dash could be off by +/- 10mm, and lane 1 to lane 8 could vary by an additional 10mm. The finishing camera probably isn't perpendicular to the straightaway to this tolerance, which might be another +/- 10mm. Faster cameras is not the solution.

It's like measuring the diameter of a cotton ball. The precision of your machine is meaningless if the boundary of the thing being measured is poorly defined.
