He's declared. Especially with Dix' injury, why wouldn't he go for it?
Yes, last time I looked at the entries he was listed.
While he's certainly credible in the 200 nationally, not so much I think internationally. I wondered if he had entered thinking that if somehow he didn't qualify in the 100, at least he would go in the 200, and that if he DID qualify in the 100, that he could choose to scratch the 200.
It appears that he has not dedicated training to the 200, but who knows? He has a shot to make the team, but since he appears to be a legitimate factor in the 100, and doing the relay as well, I would ask why bother with the 200. He will have difficulty with guys who don't view the 200 as an "also-run" event companion to the 100, guys like Weir or Ashmeade (who apparently has chosen to focus on only the 200, and scratched from the 100), Spearmon, Edward, Lemaitre (although he is still in the 100), not to mention, of course, Bolt and Blake.
The 200 format at trials is the same as was the 100 format: prelims, 3 semi's and a final. Too bad Gay's not in shape to try it, he looked to be gaining on Gatlin in the 100, and with his lack of start, the 200 seems better-suited for him, unless the turn bothers him too much.

moron
he won '05 gold
he ran 19.86 as college kid, with only 10.08 speed
he won '05 in 20-flat in shit rain/cold admitting he ran it off no 200 training but just off 100
if your name isn't bolt/blake, he's leading contender for bronze

Unless Wallace Spearmon is in good shape this year

I'd like to see Gatlin succeed at the 200, but much more than that, I'd like to see Spearmon succeed.

gatlin was doped up in 2005.
off no 200 training but just off 100
Admittedly I don't know a lot about sprint training, but how different are 100m training and 200 training?
SG - honest question on sprinting - how much does training matter? Let's say Gatlin stopped running today. Say he lives cleanly and gains <10 pounds. Doesn't lift, doesn't run.
What do you think he could run on June 26, 2013?

He's gonna run faster this year than he did when he was dopped, so what you're saying deosn't make sense...
Also won the bronze in Athens 2004.
Anyways he has nothing to lose. Spearmon is in the finest form for the 200 but Gatlin can beat any of the other guys. Salaam is clearly still hurt. Dix is hurt.

...or was he?
Now that he has run a new official (not counting the 9.77 that was wiped out) PB in the 100 some, things about his case simply don't add up. He also ran essentially the same indoors this year as his PB in 2003.
Saying that he is clean now and running as fast as when he was "cheating" simply don't add up.
If Gatlin is clean now, how does he run (at about 30) as fast as he ran when he was "dirty"? If he is dirty now and they're not catching him, what does that say about the legitimacy of Bolt's WRs?
Gatlin has always maintained that he never doped and was set up. I don't think you can claim with a straight face that he is clean now and was dirty in 2005-2007.
he is not clean now. he is doped up now too. no fvcking way a 30 year old who was out of the sport for 4 years starts running as fast clean as he did as a doped up 24-25 year old. wake up you idiots and open your eyes you blind fools.

think of an analogy ( not quite same level but it'll give you the idea ) :
what do you think rudisha coud run for 1500 currently ?
