I've stated I want Alan Webb to make the Olympic team. Having said that I don't think he should be in the Trials 5000m. He didn't qualify.
USATF has shown this year that they can let whoever they want into the meet. Well if that's the case Anthony Famiglietti had better be let into the steeple. He is a two time Olympian and is likely going to be the first guy out of the Trials. He has more Olympic credentials than Webb and actually came closer to qualifying than Webb.
A simple solution around this is to just have a rule that says past Olympians and national champions can get into the meet without a qualifying time. Problem solved. Now the rule is "We have qualifying times" but in reality we can let anyone into the meet we want. However it is totally subjective who they let into the meet.
Most people want to see Webb race the Trials so they are fine with him getting in. I want to see him in the Olympics but I understand they can't just put him on the team.
