Ok, so he has 30 minutes to still do so but why would anyone wait this close to the end to declare? Seems he is going to be a scratch. Rated by many including TFN as to make the team in the 800 but now he won't even be in the Trials! You turn pro and sign a deal and then whammy you no show at the Trials! That's gonna be a bite in the whole paycheck deal.
Stunned I'm first to post this - Robby Andrews hasnt declared in 800

If only there were another event he could run. Oh wait.
-
wow pretty stunning.
Lomong hasn't declared in the 1500 either. -
No show at the trials? I guess you didn't look at the 1500 declarations.
-
So if an athlete has qualified (Andrews in the 800 and Lomong in the 1500) but hasn't declared yet, does that mean they can't race in that event? Is there a time/date cutoff for when you have to declare?
I see on the USATF website that it's too late to REGISTER for an event, but I haven't seen whether it's too late to declare in an event you've qualified for. -
I believe you have until two days before the event to declare.
-
Lomong has until Monday to declare for the 1500.

Declarations for the 800 were due at 11:59pm PDT Tuesday 6/19. If you don't declare in time, your entry--even if qualified--is scratched.
There is an appeals process that can be made up to noon PDT today (Wednesday) if you missed the declaration window. -
DECLARATIONS PROCESS
Once properly entered, all athletes must complete the declaration process.
Each athlete or his/her representative must declare whether that athlete will or will not compete in each event they have entered. The person declaring may submit any corrected or improved marks in each event entered.
DECLARATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED ON-LINE at www.usatf.org . On-line is the only method of declaration. No other form of declaration will be accepted.
A ROLLING DECLARATIONS PROCESS WILL BE USED. AN ATHLETE MUST DECLARE ENTRY INTO AN EVENT NO LATER THAN 11:59 P.M. PT TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE FIRST ROUND OF THAT EVENT.
Declarations will be accepted as per the declaration schedule listed below beginning June 14, 2012 at 12:01 A.M. PT. There is no late declaration period (see declarations appeal process.)
Athletes may declare at any time within the declaration period but no later than the declaration deadline for their event.
Athletes not declaring by the event declaration deadline will be SCRATCHED.
A Help Line is available for those who need help with the declaration process. For assistance call 317-713-4658 during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday – Friday June 14 – 17, and 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon PT Monday – Friday June 18 – June 30.
The Status of Entries/Declarations web page updates hourly here.

So...he has until 11:59pm tonight?

No, he had until last night. Perhaps he'll still appeal, or perhaps he declared last night and the page isn't updated yet. -
If his only goal is making the Olympic team, it seems crazy that he wouldn't run the 800. He seems like he would be a favorite to make the team in the 800, as I really only see it coming down to 3 other people--Robinson, Symmonds, and Jock. In the 1500, there is Brown, Torrence, Manzano, Centro, Wheating, plus Lamong if he decides to double. Sure, he still has a good chance, but it doesn't seem quite as strong.
-
OMG! So good that you guys caught this. Someone should call him up and let him know. He and his coach probably have no idea that he has to declare in the 800 if he wants to make the team in that event. I hope they don't wait too late to check letsrun today as I'm sure they do most days so they can figure out what to do next.
-
he may think he has a good shot at pulling a Centro in the 1500. R

It's obvious...
Robbie fears Charles Jock
First, he goes pro to avoid him at the NCAA's, and now he decides to contest the 1500 at the Trials.
This is a direct affront to the gathered and settled wisdom of LetsRun. Robbie knows that his sit and kick style is no match for Jock's ability to run from the front! -

The list updates automatically as athletes declare -
When do the provisionals turn from pending to accepted? I figured this would have happened last night as well.

That should be going on today, which is another crappy part of the system. There are undoubtedly guys who have traveled to Eugene on their own dime who will find out today that they're not in.
Here's the process
For each event, the approximate field size (not the minimum) and number of rounds are shown. Also shown are the Automatic (“A”) and the Provisional (“B”) Qualifying Standards that will be used for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
All verified entries who have met the “Automatic” standard within the prescribed period, shall be qualified to participate in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Additional verified entries from the rank order list of those who have qualified with the “Provisional” standard, shall be invited to participate in the Trials only to the extent that the indicated field size has not been filled by those with the “Automatic” standard. An invitation will be extended to these additional persons based on verified entries in their performance rank order.
The "target" field size is 32, but this is where the fun starts. In past years, the field size has been entirely at the discretion of one or two USATF officials, and if they feel like the field should only be 28, it will be 28. And if the guys who are 29-32 are in Eugene and ready to run - well that sucks for them. -
So Andrews is not running the 8. Lomong still has time to declare in the 1500.
