I hear a lot of talk about the 100m, the mile and the hurdles, etc., but statistically the women’s 200m is by far the most competitive event. To put it bluntly, in the history of the US Olympic trials, to the best of my knowledge, there has never been an event were the top 4 ranked women (-or men) in the world will line up. Assuming Richards and Jeter will contest the 200m, but as it stands right now, making the USOT will be harder than winning an Olympic medal. And, I am not even mentioning Shalonda Solomon who ran 21.15 just last year and several other U.S. women who have run sub-22.5.
*Sanya Richards ran 22.09 a week ago into a slight head wind, ran a wind aided 9.87 100m early in the year and a 49.3 400m last week.
*Kimberlyn Duncan ran a windy 22.19, after running rounds in several events at the NCAA meet and has sub-10 100m speed.
*Alyson Felix ran 22.23 a week ago, has a 21.81 PR from almost 4 years ago and ran a 10.92 100m PR this year and has won the 200m at numerous big meets.
*Carmelita Jeter has run 22.31 this year, ran 22.20 last year and is the fastest women in the world over 100m.
