I love how this kid dreams big and isn't afraid to show his swag after a huge race like this. He's excited about his prospects as he should be.

Maybe the nastiest last 300 I've seen from a HS kid in 40 years of observing. Definitely sub-4:00 fitness right now. Where is he going?
he's a junior
What a great kid. Fabulous interview. Any college coach and sponsors would love to sign him up right now after that interview. I'm excited to see what he's going to run in these coming seasons.
If this kid does nothing else his senior year but follow the exact training plan from his junior year and NOT add any additional training stimulus...he'll still break 4.
Reminds me of Centro. Very good race.
He's pretty awesome from what I can tell. But i know most people don\'t have time to watch an ad and spend time on a video interview so read this:
He lost a shoe and won states barefoot last year - foot totally ripped up. This year, he lost a shoe, stopped, lost 100m and put it back on, and still won the mile.
Of course, i stole that article from the letsrun recap to make me look good.
about 1.4 & 1.6 seconds more awesome than 2nd and 3rd place
Thanks for that article! He has so much potential it's scary. He seems to have a really good head on his shoulders too. Could not be more excited about this kid.

He, like you, is a foreigner. He's from Yuma, part of Alta California.
Yuma is in AZ. He is from Arizona. Aside from his absolutely amazing running, he's an outstanding kid. Very humble, very respectful, and he cheers everyone on..regardless of how fast they are. I watched him at a local meet finish FAR before anybody else, and he stood at the finish line giving high fives to every one that came across the finish. He was the last person to leave the track after that race, because he waited for the last place person to come across..just to give a high five and pat on the back. He's the kind of kid you love to cheer for.

100% agree. Bernie is a great guy. Very humble, very respectful, very sincere. Bernie was a big fan of our last distance star in Arizona, Billy Orman, and it is great to see him taking Billy's accomplishments to the next level. Interestingly, both boys came from somewhat out of the way places in the state, far from the urban sprawl of Phoenix. So happy to see Bernie doing well.
His attitude reminds me a lot of Lagat.
Hopefully, he will run a race against top non-High School runners. He has a shot at Ryan's 3:59.0 junior class record. He may have the top mile time ever by a junior in high school only competition.
Wait: high mileage is 65-70 miles/week?? or is this a lot for a miler?

For a high school miler? Yes, it is.
