I am just curious how Levins' accomplishments and times stack up against any other 10k/5k winners in NCAA history. Has anyone won both events in at NCAA's in faster times?

You really can't compare. Levins 5k was a finals only evening starttime.
Imagine the times would be different if he ran a 5k semi, then the 10k final, and then the 5k final at 3 in the afternoon.
Not a 5k/10k, and not finals, but Henry Rono dropped an 8:18 steeple and 13:22 5k on the same day during 1978 NCAA qualifying. Rono would have certainly bested Cam's specific feat if he had tried.
Someone get some past results up.
Who has bested his total time?
No one.....
dan lincoln's steeple/10000m double was impressive and included a prelim in the former.
Levins has the fastest 5k/10k double. Lindgren has faster double times but he ran the 3 and 6 mile.

In 2009 Rupp's wins were in 28:21 and 14:04, but in the 10,000 he ran 1:59 his last 800 even though he jogged and practically stopped just before the finish, and his last 1,600 of the 5,000 was 4:00.08, final 800 1:54.30. McNeill was second in 14:05, and young freshman Chris Derrick 3rd in 14:07 a last 1600 of around 4:04 was a stunning breakthrough, moreso than his 13:29 American Junior Record.
Levins certainly has the edge in overall times. I wonder how he'll progress in his post-collegiate career. Like Rupp or David McNeill?
Suleiman Nyambui won four consecutive 10000m titles and three 5000m outdoor titles.
I am too lazy to look up his times each year, but in 1979 he ran 28:01 I believe.
Yes, here it is ...
NCAA Meet: M 28:01.30 6/1/1979 Suleiman Nyambui, Texas-El
NCAA Meet record.
OK, I found the times ...
79 10k 28:01.30
80 10k 29:21 5k 13:44.43
81 10k 28:34 5k 13:38.2
82 10k 29:03.54 5k 13:54.90
So the '79 race was the NCAA record but no 5k title that year.
Gidamis Shahanga ran a similar double in 83:29:10/13:54 and Michael Musyoki won just the 10k in 1978 in 28:30.91.
So one school won the 10,000m from 78-83 and set the NCAA Meet Record in the timeframe with three different guys.
I would say that Nyambui's '81 performance is close to Levins', and I don't know where the meet was. but It looks like Levins' is best.
Somebody more ambitious than me should look up to see if anybody else (like the WSU stars) has come close.

Nyambui ran qualifying rounds in the 5k, final in 10k, then finals in 5k at 3pm (except LSU)
1979 Illinois
13:59q Nyambui
1) 28:01 Nyambui
Dns 5kfinal
1980 austin, tx
14:14q Nyambui
1) 29:21 Nyambui
1) 13:44 Nyambui
1981 LSU
unk 5k qualifying round
1) 28:34 Nyambui
1) 13:38 Nyambui
1982 BYU
14:13q
1) 29:03 Nyambui
1) 13:54 Nyambui
1977 Champaign Illinois Both Kimombwa and Virgin had arguably more impressive doubles than Levins with 5k qualifying, 10k finals, then 5k finals under the hot 3pm sun
5k qualifying
13:51 Kimombwa
13:53 Virgin
10k final
1) 28:10 Kimombwa
2) 28:22 Virgin
5k final
2) 13:38 Kimombwa
4) 13:42 Virgin
He's not even the fastest in Utah. Look up what Ed Eyestone ran when he won both.

Putting Levins double in proper perspective, he runs the 10k fresh then has two days rest before the 5k. Both races in the evening.
Nyambui, Kimombwa and Virgin all ran three consecutive days: 5k heats, 10k final, 5k final. Quite a bit more challenging than Levin's "historic" double.
Clearly Kimombwa's double was more impressive.

Yeah, why dont you look it up? dummy.
In 1979 Nyambui was a 26 year old frosh at NCAA meet
in 82 he was a 29 year old senior, according to iaaf site
Yeah they ran heats
Chris Derrick just turned 21
Levins just turned 23 in March

That's cool. I see what you did there. Throw in another variable: AGE.
OK, just for sake of your new rules, lets throw out Nyambui from the discussion.
Let's see. Derrick didn't do squat in the 5000. He isn't even in the ballpark.
Lets compare Levins who just turned 23 to Kimombwa and Virgin, who were both 21 in 1977.

Levins runs two finals with two days rest between races. Kimombwa and Virgin, both two years younger, run their two finals back-to-back. Add the qualifying round of the 5k, that makes it back-to-back-to-back races.
You still don't see that 13:51/28:10/13:38 back-to-back heats/finals with is much better than 28:07/13:40 with 46 hours rest between?
What's more, Kimombwa actually got after it in his 5k race, running the first mile in 4:20flat, then breaking out the next three laps in 3:09 before wilting under the blazing Sun.
After seeing Levins, if you even did, is there that much doubt he would have held up in rounds? Running like 14 flat or better to get through
If you say no,you are not being objective, he must have run 25 flat coming in drilling everyone
and my oh my, if you do not think age was a factor in their paticular domination, I don't know what to say, except look at their marks when they were 21 and 23 respectively
Nyambui, never ran faster than he did when in college, that is because he was in his peak of running life.
Virgin would be and was an All Timer in any era
Clearly running heats and more races is tougher, no one is arguing that
I do think this particular guy Levisn would have held up
you just said '21 year old virgin'. he he.
Dude, I already threw Nyambui's name out of the ring just to appease your new metric for comparison. Why keep bringing his name up?
You can only go by what Levins actually did, not what you think he could have done.
DO you really think that the both the 10k and 5k this year would have been the same if they were back-to-back? Or back-to-back-to-back? That's a stretch, and also pure conjecture.
The facts stand. Levins ran two finals with 46 hours rest between. Kimombwa and Virgin ran two finals back to back, with a qualifying round in the 5k the day before the 10k.
It doesn't seem like a contest at all. You might go ahead and give the subjective nod to Levins over Virgin, but Kimombwa had the best double.
Given the rest, what times do you think Levins would had to have run to make his double more impressive than Kimombwa's?
don't get me wrong, I like Cam Levins, he is amazing. But your relentless Cam Levins jock-sniffing is starting to wear a bit thin here. Instead of rallying support for him, it kind of pushes me away from getting behind him. So it a rest and let his deeds speak for themselves.
Hey Malmo: The reason these posters just don't "get it" is because they have never run an all out 10k final at night and tried to come back the next afternoon in a 5k final. I have done it once.....hurts like hell................
