Warbo has been around the 1.46/1.47 mark for years. Huge run from him tonight and decent run by Learmonth in 2nd - 1.47.15 and only 20.
Time trialed it too. Fckin hell. Impressive

Looks a little older than I expected.
Finally decided to get serious and/or hit the PEDs.
Improved 2 seconds one year
2 seconds the next year
Stayed for a year
Then 1.5 sec this year
Sounds plausible
Just being busted for PEDs
He is denying it...
He's a sub-1:45 800 runner.
Here is a round-up of the Gareth Warburton doping scandal that has broken today.
UK Athletics announced that 800m athlete Warburton has been provisionally suspended from all competition after being charged with committing anti-doping rule violations under UK Athletics Anti-Doping Rules (presence of prohibited substances)
Welsh Athletics state Warburton has the opportunity to respond to the charges against him, and to have those charges determined at a full hearing before the National Anti-Doping Panel.
Warburton himself produced a statement saying the news of this anti-doping rule violation came as a great shock to him. He claimed he has not knowingly taken any banned substance but recognise that the responsibility for this situation lies with him. Confirms he will miss Glasgow as he bids to clear his name.
Brian Davies, Chef de Mission of Team Wales confirms Warburton will no longer be able to compete at the Games but reiterates the athlete is presumed innocent unless until any charges brought against him have been upheld. Davies insists Team Wales is committed to providing athletes with the necessary education required to ensure we compete as clean athletes at a clean Games.
seems like quite a few British/Welsh/Irish distance runners have tested positive the past few years compared to American distance runners, and not super elite types either.

Like who?
Warburton and Lombard?
fagan
what a c*nt.
And of course he is "shocked and dismayed" and never "knowingly" has taken anything.
God forbid any of these jacka$$es just say "I wanted to be better really bad and just thought this was the way to level the playing field.

So we're talking one Brit, one Irish and one 'Irish'?
Not sure how we can say this is 'far more' than America.
Sure we can think of at least a couple of Americans in the same timespan (over a decade).
guy ran this earlier in oslo

Well, you never know what happened. I got a race packet from a race in the last 2 years and in the packet was a mix (two of them) that you took pre-workout (drink) and I tried it. It tasted horrible. So I went back to read about what was in it more closely. On the friggin packet it said that it contained a substance that was not legal by certain agencies! This is at a race no less. So, it could simply be that he took a supplement not knowing it had something that was deemed illegal. They need to be more aware than that, but I can see how something like this could happen. I like muscle milk and on there it says that it is in compliance with all the agencies out there, but I am sure you can go to your local GNC or supplement store and find a lot of things that aren't. So I am less apt to saying he definitely 'doped'. I would want to know the substance first. If it is in over the counter stuff, then maybe just a case of not being diligent about what he is consuming. If it is something that is like synthetic testosterone or EPO, then sure ban him.
Prior to this doping announcement, I had never heard of this guy, so I have no reason to defend or attack him. Noting that, a couple of thoughts:
First, nothing strange or suspicious in his progression. Looking at those stats (per Tilastopaja), he was primarily running 400 in 2005-2007. Ran several @ 46.xx. Also a 21.81 200. Started running the. 800 in 2008-2009 (just 5 each year), and fully committed to it in 2010. In these 5 seasons, he has been at best a 1:46.xx guy, mostly, with 2 performances faster in 2012: his1:44.98 at Oslo and 1:45.80 in his heat at the EC. Not hard to think of others who have mostly bumped along at one level, but who have a performance or two that are better. (Wheating would be an example.) That's the way it goes for most careers, so nothing weird there for Warburton.
Second: And now he has a doping positive. Assuming that holds up (procedurally, etc.), I do not care much about his statements or his intentions, or how it happened. Were I a personal friend or family member of his, perhaps I would care. As it is, he is the responsible party.
When are these clowns going to learn that the authorities are serious about going after dopers? Don't they realize that the rules are going to be strictly enforced if you aren't an African or Cuban or some other third worlder protected by Political Correctness and several agendas that are driven by people who hate countries that do well and prosper? Americans, Brits, other Europeans, Japanese, several others, should all take note!
Oh right lots of British distance runners have tested positive! Fagan and Lombard are Irish (different country). Warburton is the first British middle distance / distance runner to test positive for many years (Wales is a country within Great Britain seeing you don't seem to understand that). The USA is one of the dirtiest countries there is and has a poor testing program compared to Britain, testing a much smaller percentage of athletes per head of population.
