I’m at that point in my life where I’m ready to make the transition from dating to marriage. My girlfriend and I have talked about the topic, both want to get married and picked out the engagement ring together. The ring is set for pickup tomorrow, which means I have to get around to the actual task of formally asking her.
While I don’t worry about the proposal, I am a bit apprehensive over the thought of talking to her Dad about the proposal and getting his blessing. While her Dad does not exactly dislike me, I know that I do not fit within his ideal for potential marriage candidates for his daughter.
I’m looking for a little advice for those of you that have been through this process. How should I frame the conversation? Is there anything I should consider to make me less nervous? Should this even be a difficult conversation? What questions should I be prepared to answer? Other thoughts?
