WTF .223!!!
Haven't seen the race yet, that was a solid dismantling of all U.S. rivals:
Gatlin 9.90
Ashmeade 9.93 (!!!)
Kimmons 10.04
Dix 10.04
Patton 10.05
Carter 10.05
Rodgers 10.07
Callendar 10.14
Gatlin--SOLID.
Now these times seem entirely believable.
Ashmeade's 9.93 makes the Orlando meet from last weekend look legit, which means that Bledman actually did deliver a 9.89! Holy crap!
And Ashmeade, under 10 for the first time last weekend at 9.97, now down to 9.93, and absolutely BLOWING past Carter in so doing, who saw that coming. Ashmeade might be the fourth guy on relay, although Carter is a reliable leadoff guy.
Patton's time is very good, almost a SB, even with Carter, and ahead of Rodgers, who looked to have a crap run. I look forward to more from Rodgers in the coming month, he seems better than this result would indicate.
Meanwhile, Gatlin continues to pile up the wins, this time crushing serious US rivals other than Gay and some college sprinters, who are very good this year. I wasn't holding out any expectations for Dix in the 100, he's just got too much changing to do.
If conditions sucked at Pre, then Gatlin's win, and Ashmeade's 9.93, are all that much more impressive.
Justin F-ing Gatlin. I know he's reviled, but wow. 3 solid sub-10's on the year already. I still think that his best will be around 9.85, and that he had better hope that will be enough to get him a medal in London, and that he can rely on the difficulty of the rounds to take the fight out of some of the other dogs more than it does to him.
