What are people's opinions out there regarding weight training and running? When I say weight training I am referring to strength training(7-9 reps) not endurance.
I am currently at strong D2 school and made the team for xc last fall (running 33:56 10k). At that time, I weighed 158 and was 6 feet. I now weigh 175 lbs (grown about an inch) after doing a fair bit of weight training (beer helped too). My school does not offer track so my training since then has been quite relaxed. I have ran a few races and my times are still respectable (16:30 5k). The last few weeks I have upped my mileage but am maintaining my weight training. If I were to go into the cross season at my present weight, do you think it would have a major negative effect on my times? I know that it won't help, but I wouldn't mind keeping the extra weight on for the summer (beach season).
